What midi/synths did Michiru Yamane use for SOTN?
I know there's a couple of live recordings, but I swear I hear some samples from either a sound canvas or a JV module. Notably in the Saturn songs like Bloody Tears.

Probably a JV module, either a 1080 or a 2080. It wouldn't be far-fetched because the OSTs of Dawn of Sorrow and 64 were made mainly with the 1080.

You posted the link twice. Also hot damn this sounds awesome.

The bigger question is why do the DS games sound so cheap? Like she composed them on a Fisher Price MIDI keyboard? Even N64 has a more pleasant sound

You answered your own question. Handhelds always suck at sound quality.

They sound fine to me, Order of Ecclesia's soundtrack is perfect.
Though I suppose if you compare it to the sound/music quality of certain other games it may sound "cheap" to you.
The Lufia 2 remake in particular sounds really damn good.

Still better than the gba games. Especially Harmony of Dissonance.

its actually absurd how true this is. combined with the basic bitch voice work and actors these games felt absolutely souless and hard to appreciate and i rarely use the "soul" card here. ecclesia is only good because it strong arms itself above with its break in the formula but it still has the same issues. DXC psp just feels like so much more effort went into its presentation and its not cause of the cd quality
>>10802173
the compositions are only sometimes the issue. all 3 have this unappealing default presentation. i swear by the castle entrance sample though

Dawn of sorrow had some good stuff, especially the music despite the DS sound quality barely even managing to push good sc-88 sounds. DOS just has absolutely retarded map design and the bosses requiring the shitty seal draw.

Dawn of sorrow had some songs made by one of the CV64 composers. I don't think Michiru got help for PoR or OOE but I could be wrong.
