I agree with all your points, but I think the game is charming and that's what props it up in people's eyes. I beat it last year and hated most of the game, but when I beat it and looked back on the game I enjoyed my time.
2 immediately felt like they improved the gameplay and controls, but they removed the adventure aspect by having you teleport to places and I lost interest in it immediately.

When I played the remakes I started playing them thinking they would be inferior because they were made before Mario 64.
I didn't enjoy it at first. Physics and hitboxes are really fucked up on remake. Only played like an hour for 3 days.
Something clicked at fourth day. I became extremely good and beat it that night. Not just the first game I continued to beating second and third game as well. I didn't sleep for whole night.

It's way too based around finding about hidden crap, despite not being an exploration focused game, and is only challenging when specific gems have unique gimmicks to them, and is otherwise piss easy. Has to be bait, 2 is a masterpiece. Control is super tight, levels are challenging but rewarding, graphics and audio are top notch. For me Crash 2 is far more fun than SM64. I like being able to just stick it on and blast out a few levels, I always liked games that were about perfecting a perfect run and dialing aa level in, like Ninja Gaiden (NES), Tony Hawks 1,2+3 etc and Crash 2 gives that feel but in it's own unique way.
