ITT meta-stuff in games you believed back in the day and which had an impact on you later

>Nothing you do during a pokeball catch increases the catching rate.

>The first F-Zero for SNES didn't have splitscreen multiplayer
Yes, I was convinced until recently that I played F-Zero in multiplayer with my cousin.

So, anything /vr/? Childhood myths!

What about holding Down+B?

It just works 50% of the time. So I'd say it's hardly reliable

Technically, no, I think. I believe the game determines whether the pokemon is caught just after the pokeball is selected but before the text is written to the screen.

F-zero needs a bunch of mods.

The Pokemon anime and the games always reinforced how important your starter Pokemon was. Even now when I play Yellow I keep Pikachu around even though his stats aren't that great. I kept Serperior around too even though he was useless by the endgame.

I used to believe that random encounters in standard JRPGs were triggered by moving too much too quickly, and when I needed to get back to a town without encounters (low hp or whatever) I'd walk a few steps, stop for a while to let the encounter rate "cool down" before I continued. If it still triggered I'd rationalize it was because the random encounter walkameter had become "too hot" and locked-in a random encounter for my next move no matter how long I rested.

This was, by the way, solely based on witnessing the overworld blob monsters spawn rate in Zelda 2 (spawns more often if you move a lot since there is both a time-based and a move-based spawn rate).

I don't know why but I like that you thought that.

The best word I have for that behavior is "cute." Not that I put videos of myself playing online, but I think of all the silly habits I had as a kid and how the internet would tear me apart if they saw me playing.

I played vidya because my grandpa died when I was young, and my grandma always let me play his Game Boy when I was over there.

Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening was my very first game. I could never get past the raccoon that was really that one guy, not because I never got the Magic Powder, but because I never thought to use it on him.

So I figured the only thing that I could do was to buy a "boat" from the shop and sail to another part of the island or something. Saved up for the "boat" by grinding for rupees. It took two visits to my grandma, I think. I was pretty irritated when it turned out the "boat" was actually a bow and arrow.

It sounds like you're bad at tactics is all, the meta of pokemon has always been ridiculously broken when applied. Hell you can beat pokemon well over 60 levels above you if you make use of type advantage, stat modifiers and STABS.
