What controller has the best d-pad? I don't like PS4's d-pad, and I hear 8bitdo has problems with overly sensitive diagonals. I have a RG353V handheld with sensitive diagonals so I know how shitty that is.
Are there any PC-compatible controllers with an actually good d-pad for emulation?

Sega Genesis / Saturn 6 button. Not even close. These Nintendo style d-pads are dogshit. I like NES but the gamepad is literally a rectangle with buttons on it. Minimal effort and zero ergonomics.

I have Vilros SNES controller which has a great d-pad, and Vilros N64; I got a Vilros bundle with NES, SNES, N64, Genesis 6 button, and PS2. All of them except SNES and N64 died out. But, well, SNES and N64 still work and feel authentic.
I also have the official Sega Saturn USB controller, and a shitty Gamecube USB controller that has an awful analog stick and shoulder pads, it's a total disgrace to an authentic Gamecube controller.
Anyways, I found myself getting tired of switching controllers depending on what game I want to play, and I now prefer to use one controller, so I switched to PS4. But I found out that the d-pad on PS4 just sucks for platforming, I tested it on SMB Lost Levels and couldn't even duck and slide under bricks in world 1-2, I had to use the analog stick.
So yeah this is why I am asking. And an SNES controller won't work for 5th gen and onwards.

>Hori controllers
Which controller would you recommend for highest compatibility with games up to 6th gen?

Don't know, I only know about the ones without sticks. I know they have ones with them, though.

8bitdo is total shit. It doesn't function properly, and the customer service is non-existent. I have genuinely had better luck with cheap brands that randomly appear on Amazon than anything I've tried from 8bitdo.

>I don't understand how you're "tired of switching controllers," what's the big deal
It just feels more convenient to not have to unplug a controller, get up and grab another controller, and plug that controller in every time I switch to a game on a different console. If I had just one good controller with a good d-pad and all the other buttons and sticks I need, that'd be ideal.
I still plan to use my other controllers sometimes as I like them, but idk.

It really isn't shocking to me though that modern controllers just can't get everything right, that'd be too nice. My ideal controller would be Saturn controller with 2 analog sticks tacked on just like a Dualshock, and two more shoulder buttons. And a Select button.

I have a multi response for you, because I dunno what you wanna play.
Overall the 8bitdo neogeo it's simply godlike, but it lacks buttons
>but it's not a d-pad
it is and it's simply great ck a video about it

8bitdo m30 has saturn stick and more buttons, it's great but very small and the asymmetrical buttons are bad (for me) for fighters

Alternative way, a leverless stick with arrows instead of the dumb big button on the bottom for jumping. it can be even better for pure inputs, but it's not a controller and I understand the comfyness of pad.

Also believe it or not but the standard dpad of the new Xbox is very good.

> Also believe it or not but the standard dpad of the new Xbox is very good.

It is but it’s loud. The face buttons are also deep and cause make you feel like there’s input lag when there’s not.

The 8bitdo issue nowadays is one of those lottery deals. It depends entirely on what batch of rubber contacts they're using for the shipment you buy, which is a given when you're dealing with the Chinese manufacturers. I've used the Pro 2 and the M30 for years and they've never failed me. Now if only they made fucking Saturn receivers.

>> No.10749967

>>10748173
I don't even know why they bothered with the sticks, the left stick does work for analog games but it's way too small and doesn't have anywhere near enough travel distance to handle the way the 3D Pad's analog stick was mapped to those games. The big kicker though is that it doesn't have analog triggers, which is funny because it's usually the opposite issue, so all of those games that support the 3D Pad that also made use of the analog triggers (nearly all of them) are unplayable with this controller.
At least they fixed the d-pad and shoulder buttons being bad. That only took them 5 or so years.

I am looking to play SNES, GB, GBA, and NES games from my childhood. Is the 8bitdo SN30 a good buy? Or maybe the Pro 2? I heard they have issues with ghosting and stuff, but I really just want a familiar form factor that takes me back to my childhood and is either wireless or bluetooth.

I have a pro 2 for a year now and am using it all over the place.
No issues for me so far, I like it for 2D gaming as the dpad is in the primary position.
If you are doubting then just order one from amazon and try it out, if you find it shit then there is a simple return policy.

Is the D-pad good though? I'm seeing lots of people say it slides in the casing and feels bad.

I might do that, but I've been returning a few things from amazon lately and don't want to get banned.

The earlier dpads were bad on the 8bitdo (many years ago). That is also why some people are still shitting on them.
Newer models fixed that but I don't know from which controller onward that was.
