SoC Comparison https://versus.com/en/mobile-chipset

>Where to buy
Aliexpress, gogamegeek, litnxt, keepretro, mechdiy

>What to know about brands
Retroid: Well built, powerful, but expensive (100$+)
Anbernic: Balance between price, power and build quality. Many available products
Powkiddy: Cheap, low quality builds, interesting shapes (square, clamshell, big screen)
Miyoo: One hit wonder
Game Console: Copycat popular products with low prices
TrimUI: Good build quality, shitty software with no good CFW alternatives

>How do I get games
Google: tiny best set

>What do I buy
Post your preferences: Money (20$ - 200$), Shape (horizontal, vertical, clamshell, square), Pocketable or not, OS (Linux, Android, Both), Systems (Pre PSX, PSX with extras, 5th gen + Dreamcast plus some PS2/GC, PS2/GC capable)

>Things I need to know
- Handhelds come with low quality SD cards. Throw them away and buy new ones.
- It takes some tinkering, specially linux devices.
- Overall quality of these products is very cheap.
- Reviewers get free handhelds, caveat emptor.

Stuck between the RG556 and Odin 2. RG556 is appealing because it's almost half the price and has that sexy OLED. Odin 2 is way more powerful and better built.

Is OLED a lot better than the Odin 2 screen? I think it's just going to come down to that for me since I can afford both.

I'm not implying the 556 will ever measure up to RP4P performance levels, just stating synthetic benchmarks are a rough estimative. Whole lot of factors once you actually run emulators, some favor certain chips, some android builds struggle on load, etc. Again, ridiculous how youtube shills glance over 3 games each system, fill the gaps with these numbers and call it a day. Value the awkward autists who stream for 2 hours just fucking around taking requests, these give you the real picture.

It isn't. It launched pricey, it's advertised with systems it can't really do well like N64, DC and PSP, it has an Android tax for a janky build plagued with issues that runs sluggish even if it's better for actually running emulation 90% of the time (as long as you give up Play Services), and finally the 35XX+ obsoleted it on the Linux end even without the sticks. Your post made me check up their official prices again and Brother Zhou is still out of his fucking mind. For comparison, the 405V is going for $138.

>The RG35XX+ is all you need.
FTFY. From personal experience, a 3.5" screen feels a LOT smaller on a horizontal handheld than a vertical one. You tend to more easily notice the parts of the screen where your hands aren't located. With a hori, you notice the height of the screen, which makes it feel smaller. With a verti, you notice the width of the screen, which makes it feel bigger. Also, you tend to hold vertical handhelds closer to your face due to your hand position, which also makes the screen feel bigger.

t. had a Miyoo Mini+ for six months before I "upgraded" to an RP2S, only to realize how much smaller GBA games felt on it compared to the MM+. Now I only touch it for 3D games, due to how superior the sticks are.

I put one of these together a few years ago (fat AGB rather than the SP though), I should've just bought an emulation handheld

swapping the screen on an SP is a huge pain in the neck, at least it was for me because im lazy. i did re-shell a couple of em, but it was just a hassle.

Forgot half my post, to elaborate why, its the worst of both worlds

>Dealing with aging hardware, 2 decade old button membranes or ultra shitty aftermarket ones
>tons of input lag from the screen
>Inside of the console is a spaghetti mess of fine wires and new ribbon cables
>Still dealing with all the proprietary stuff you were with the original console, shitty speakers, noisy headphone jack, awful battery life, needing a flash cart/original carts
>Its expensive and relatively delicate so you don't feel good about just throwing it into your pocket

Cancel the order and just get an emulation handheld or buy the kit and do the mod yourself, doing all the fiddly soldering was the most fun and interesting part of the entire process

For me, it had to go through the right cable or combination.
USB A adapter and a C to C cable, USB A to C cable direct charged fast at a normal pace.
USB C to C no charge, only would slow charge if C to C through a C to C hub.
USB A to C through an A to A cable extension (that usually fast charges) slow, also slow with the adapter. Cheap A to C cable direct? Slow charge.

For the record, the A to A cables I use are from different brands and fast charge with USB A to Micro/Mini and everything else generally too, but only slow charges when USB C to comes in to play. It could be something jank as fuck like that.

That would be hella worse though. A settlement stays within the confines of Nintendo and Yuzu, if they got sentenced then it would set a legal precedent that would effect ALL emulation legality

Your phone will be using a certified voltage/amp that your charger is compatible with and conforming to some fast charge standard like QC/PD.
The specs for USB C & fast charging are truly fucked, different standards use different voltages, just because you have a right big bastard of a charger or cable doesn't mean it's the right one for the job.

A common fast charge standard is 18w. I have a tablet that does 22W and caps at 18w on incompatible chargers that don't do the correct voltage, like the switch charger does I think 39W PD but won't fast charge all devices or even output a charge.

A simple 5V/1-2A charger with a USB A to C adapter/cable could end up charging faster than your megabrick deck charger simply because it's capable of operating at the correct voltage or at least 5-10W where it could be gimpled at the 1-2.5W charging rate otherwise.

I got two of them, they're good stuff although all screens are doomed to yellow. My BNIB one I only do battery cycling on has started to get the tint of doom already and it's been stored out of use.

They're unbeatable for DS games though thanks to the big ol' pixels. The difference in real estate is more than noticeable a huge jump up from the 3" screens of the standard DS.

RP4P is the best if you want to toy with PS2 stuff. But having played 3DS on mine it's really not ideal due to the small screen size. You can cope by switching screens or making one of them smaller and on the side, but it's honestly a pain. People will generally tell you to just get an actual DS/3DS if you want to emulate those systems, or a bigger handheld like the Odin2 and Steam Deck with more screen real estate.

the RG353P came very close to being that for me except for three things;

1) just a touch more power, if it was capable of 100% Dreamcast, N64, and PSP emulation(and as close to 100% for Saturn too) it'd hit all my major requirements(I still feel that while nice having GameCube, PS2, Wii, and 3DS emulation capabilities are more of a bonus than a hard requirement for an emulation handheld)

The steam dick is unironically a piece of shit. because it is impossible to get ahold if you have low income or live outside the US. and i dont mean just because im poor.

the dick can only be bought in the states. and not only that, you cant buy it in any store, only thru Steam. where theres no payment facilities for those of low income. the only way you can get the dick is buy it fullprice, no other way.

people who defend the dick actually like to suck dick. period.

-The gba accellerator overclock mod is great but he doesn't seem to offer it anymore.
-The upgraded battery sort of bulges out of the compartment. Kindof annoying.
- Compared to my custom gba that I modded myself, its pretty good quality.

I'd spring for an rg35xx. Since the plus model is out right now the originals are going for cheap, and it's got hella better build quality than the discount ones people shill like the SF. You can find it on amazon for like $65 with free 2 day shipping

Just remember to get your own micro sd card no matter what console you get, because all the ones that come with these consoles are shit and prone to failure. If you get an rg35xx, you should also install garlic, easily the best OS.

Same white noise here on my rgb30 but its CONSIDERABLE lower in volume than on the trimui smart and the rgb353ps so its still in OK range
Its an overdriven amp, it should be fixable in the alsa settings, we just need to find a way to access alsa settings of course which i have not found a way for yet
Alternatively i consider dampening the speakers by soldering in an old fashioned volume wheel
This is why the cheapcrap devices like the sf2000 have no such noises, there is a physical filter while these _expensive_ ons have a full driven amp that amplifies every radiointeference they can pick up

Thought you guys might appreciate my picrel.
Gameboy Zero build I'm doing using Kite's super AIO I bought in 2017 and just now got around to building.

kiteretro super AIO board
raspberry pi zero
glitchdgaming rear DMG L/R button bracket
misc other components

I need to source a battery. ideally something I can jam into the factory battery tray area as I have managed to put this together without cutting that yet.

>pictures taken moments before disaster
it fell over knocking the too-stubby microUSB cord out and killing power because I haven't installed a battery yet. the kit was supposed to come with a cable with a longer metal bit on the microUSB to connect into the case to charge so I guess this is normal but I either never got one or managed to lose it in 7 years so idk. got one on order.

she's a crusty as hell despite being brand new, and would get completely mogged and logged by most shitty chinkhelds available in 2024 or a hacked 3DS, and even with the easymode parts I splurged on 7 years ago still looks like an abortion inside, but you know what? I made it. it was never about the games...

I might get some different color buttons to try and match the accent lines on the screen glass and blue Gameboy text.

If I was Asus (and soon MSI) I'd start cutting into other areas of my business so I can sell these handhelds for cheap. The 405M does some GC and PS2 though so not only would it be better to get RP4 (if your budget is around $150 specifically) but it's also better because you get the wider screen for those, PSP, DC, and older games with widescreen hacks. That's assuming he wants to use it for that at all. And I'm not going to pretend the 405M is a gen 6 machine, off the top of my head the ones that play decently well so far are: Kingdom Hearts, Soul Nomad (slowdown with the Demon attack), Final Fantasy X, MegaMan X Command Mission (GC), Wind Waker (slowdown in big areas like Forsaken Fortress outside), Sonic Heroes, Animal Crossing, Kirby Air Ride, and Smash Melee. I want a switch like experience. One method is map your Bluetooth controls to the on screen overlay and make it transparent, but there has to be a better way.
