I've only played one of these, and I wasn't a fan of the ... sort of action gameplay it had. Like you needed move around the tiles to dodge attacks. I think I'd prefer these more if they were just turn based for combat.

Bolting on D&D mechanics to this was kind of marketing. The real-time dungeon crawler is a cool concept and D&D is a game about dungeon crawling but the mix is a little awkward.

The game is ultimately more about exploration and suspense than combat. Mosters that sneak up on you and start attacking with no warning other than maybe some footsteps is part of the design.
