It's one of the best beat em ups I've ever played. I can offer you a couple of tips that helped me, keep jump kicking at them as they're in mid air and hit them while they're landing, and watch the shadows when they jump to gauge their distance and angle from you.

I'm currently playing my whole collection of SEGA games with my brother, because he's going to marry next month.
We'll play classic multiplayers like:Streets of rage 1, 2 & 3
Golden axe 1, 2 & 3.
Gunstar heroes
Contra hard corps
Forgotten worlds
Eternal champions
But mainly Columns 3, it has the greatest challenge for multiplayer, it's fair and has great music.

Also, for single player I'm playing Ecco, because I've never actually beaten it.

The original Shinobi is a great game. Really tight controls and fast paced action.

The only problem I have is that at the final stage of the game, you lose your chance to continue if you die. What's the point of offering unlimited continues for the entirety of your playthrough just to take it away when you get to the truly challenging stage?

Checking back, I played sonic 1 for about an hour and a half tonight and it's great. It's faster than jazz (like having a sugar rush the whole game) and the pacing is better since I don't have to snipe turtles.

The only thing that I didn't like as much were the level aesthetics, Jazz had more vibrant and trippy looking levels. Though to be fair it was a PC game released later than sonic 1 and I haven't played through all of sonic yet.

Overall though I give sonic so far 11/10, I'll probably end up playing all the sidescrollers.

It's a great game. What stage have you gotten to?

When I played Sonic as a kid it was at my neighbor's house, and she already had all the games by the time I was introduced to them, so I kind of played them all at once instead of in order -- eg, I would be stuck at a certain zone in Sonic one, a different one in Sonic 2, etc, and go back and forth between the games trying to make progress. Of course I sucked at games compared to now and I can't imagine getting stuck in a Sonic game now that I'm not a kid anymore, so you might prefer to just beat them all in order, but in retrospect switching around between the three of them was actually a really fun way to play.

Not particularly. The animation is very good and the Matt Furniss music is great but the game is too long for its own good. In 1993 it would have been super cool and if you need to do it again you can get slightly different versions of the speech from going in as different characters.

Snatcher was kind of a rushed job. The MSX and PC-88 versions just kind of abruptly end at act 2 because of time and money issues. Then they finally were able to make a director's cut of Snatcher due to SD Snatcher's success and finally give people the intended ending (Which was first used in SD Snatcher, funnily enough), but mostly through exposition. It's better than nothing, either way.

Green Hill leads to Marble, laccoliths hinting of the volcanic lava to come. The ruins are ancient, built before the magma, the ensuing volcanic eruption killed it's inhabitants turning the city into rubble and filling its underground structures with lava.
Springyard is Casino Night under construction, Robotnics burgeoning gambling resort being built in the mountains on the outskirts of the metropolis.
Labyrinth another lost city, underground, it's bird worshipping founders and inhabitants mysteriously long gone. A short cut taken by Sonic from the mountains into the city.
Starlight zone, the edge of Robotnics city, not entirely finished, under perpetual construction, forever branching out and swallowing up the wilderness.
Scrapbrain, the heart of Robotnics factory.

The TV screen add-on was cool but they should have IMHO stuck with a monochrome screen and used an upgraded version the Sega card format.

The GG did ok, actually. Sega made a huge mistake giving up on handhelds as they could have seriously challenged the Gameboy if they made the effort and thought things through properly.

The chip is fine, the problem is that developers used the default instrument presets from devkits, and THOSE sounded shit.

I'd say Toejam & Earl 2, Streets of Rage 2, Ranger X, Ecco 2 are better examples. Also Comix Zone and The Ooze if you can stand the purposefully loud grunge imitation. Or Beavis & Butthead while we go in that direction... And Alisia Dragoon and Columns if you want classical-sounding stuff (Alisia is harpsichord-heavy, Columns has a captivating organ tune).

Shit, even Sonic 2 sounded pretty damn smooth.
