What is your favourite SRPG from the 16-bit era, /vr/?
For me it’s the Shining Force series.

>> No.10711475

I would have liked to play a "Shining Force Online" during the golden days of the MMORPG genre.

Tactics Ogre: LUCT.
It has several bugs and can get janky, but I love coming back to it and making a team around two or three generics while benching most of the named characters.

This, though these days I play the PSP version instead. I don't know how the remaster stands up but people say it's good.

Just Shining Force.
I don't like the FFT style SRPGs and I don't like Fire Emblem because of badly included permadeath.
I've yet to try Langrisser though, the inclusion of generic units sounds good to me.

I suppose Shining Force 2. Though I really got more into the genre with the 32 bit generation.

I never said that they're too hard, SRPGs most of the time aren't even hard to begin with.
I just don't enjoy the way the maps play out.

Front Mission. Fantasy is fine, but Mecha SF is my cup of tea.

I know what you mean. Whichever Advance Wars game it was where you fight the grey/purple guys I got really sick of at the end and never beat it.

I'm not sure we're on the same page.
I love Advance Wars.
>where you fight the grey/purple guys
Black actually, you fight them at the end of AW1 and through the entirety of AW2.

I started the original shining force a few weeks ago and just made it to chapter 7.
I'm really liking it but it's also my first SRPG ever, so no reference material to compare it with.
It has some issues like the odd difficulty spike in the circus and that there are balancing issues where some characters are overpowered, while others feel totally useless.

I was really enjoying it until like battle 3 or 4 where it became apparent that it was a furry game.

Yes. Centausrs and elves are mythological, but dogmen and ratfuckers will be gassed with the other furries.

Has anyone played Treasure Hunter G? It looks like fun and a good deal faster than typical SRPGs.
