Already behind schedule for release, and now they posted a Tweet that's a clip from The Office of Michael saying "It's Over".

I know they like to think they are funny by being meme-ish in their marketing, but it's also a pretty stupid idea to post a clip of someone saying "It's Over" when your upcoming product isn't even out yet if this isn't a sign of the MARS being dead.

>> No.10709424

Nothing inspires confidence more than "It's over. We are screwed."

Yeah, I am keeping my eye on the Replay2, but just planning it out on a flowchart-like diagram and actually building PCBs to do that are mountains of difference. It's easy to go "I will connect the FPGA and ARM CPU together by a daughterboard and QSPI", actually implementing that in a way that works and can be mass produced in like the difference between saying "I want to go to the moon" and actually designing the rocket.

Wasn't this thing announced months ago though? If for some reason this is the reason MARS called it quits or is going on hiatus for a redesign you would think they would have done that long ago. Although with it having a more advanced FPGA that I hear people claim is "two generations ahead of the MARS" and managing to still be cheaper overall because FPGAs changed a lot from the time MARS was first being planned until now would definitely hurt them. I don't see why anyone would then buy a MARS instead of either build a MiSTer if they want something now or wait for a Replay2 if they are ok with waiting for something more powerful, and from my understanding either option will be cheaper than a MARS (for now at least, who knows if MARS will lower it's price or if the Replay2 ends up costing a lot more than first anticipated considering it's still in the planning stages with no PCBs made yet).

... at least it's not the Amico Intellivision I guess?

The Replay2, apparently an update to some FPGA board I had never heard of called the Replay (Which may or may not have been Chinkware?)

That's a very outdated design from 2017 though, this thing was being worked and reworked on for years... which does worry me that it might end up as a Duke Nukem Forever scenario where it the dev just keeps changing the hardware as newer tech comes out and never finishes it, but it's now using a board that is has Intel's newer Agilex5 FPGA and has a 64 bit dual-core ARM CPU on it. Specs-wise it shits all over MiSTer and MARS while apparently costing less than the MARS.

There's a better chance that the Amico will be worth something in the near future than any of these FPGA devices.

I got pussy this morning by the way. It was real and not a simulation, unlike your dead platform.
By the way, you might want to lay off the racial slurs considering some of your project partners are black.

Mine will be fully open source. You can order the pieces from jlcpcb and if you're incapable of assembling it they have an assembly service. Or you can take the files and print the case yourself and get the boards from oshpark or wherever.

I don't think much profit was to be had, and the design is open source, although they didn't open source it until later.

Not sure if it's worth it to design a new PCB for the MiSTer right now, with everyone coming up with a "more powerful MiSTer" design lately and a few possible plausible options for a better FPGA starting to crop up, as well as the MiSTerX project which is keeping it's eye out for a better FPGA. There might be an upgraded MiSTer using something other than the DE-10 soon.

>> No.10714386

the mars is coming, you aren't gonna buy one anyways so why are you following the development closer then people who will buy it?

>> No.10715290

>>10714386
Because I follow both software and FPGA emulation in general, and I am still undecided on the MARS depending on if it can deliver on it's more impressive promises like Dreamcast and depending what happens with Replay2 or if MiSTerX ever surfaces.
