What do you think of the Mario 2 enemy selection, in comparison to the other games?

Enemies are similar. It’s suffers the same fate as Castlevania two and legend of Zelda two.

Is it better than 3? No. Is it better than 1? No. Is it a really good game? Yes.

not at all
unless you mean Mario 2 in Japan, but Mario Madness doesn't have a single enemy in common with Super Mario Bros. 1

I don't think there's any overlap at all, unless you're talking about the Japanese SMB2.

Interestingly it has enemies from the arcade games Donkey Kong, Jr. (Spark), and Mario Bros. (POW block, Sidestepper (Clawgrip's true form)).

It may even be more accurate to call the game "Mario Bros. 2" as it's more of a spiritual successor to the arcade series.

I still have a faint patch of wonder attached to my memory of Clawgrip that lingers after my childhood failure to ever understand when or how he might grow suddenly, or what might be meant by that if not what it literally seems to be saying.

Growing up it always bothered me that Nintendo didn't bother changing the sprites. Seemed lazy. But other than that, I do love them. Some of them are quite eerie/creepy.

Agreed. Tryclyde is awesome, Phanto is great, Ninji is mysterious, Birdo is fun, etc. They are good enemies.

>> No.10704295

I feel like most enemies in SMB2 aren't even trying to be threatening, outside of the bombs and the mask. They're not throwing fireballs or hammers at you, they're just there, minding their own business, and the only threat is their sheer number coupled with sometimes fast movement.

Yet oddly it works.

What versions are the two sets on the left from? I recognize the top right as the original NES version and I THINK the bottom right is the All Stars version although I haven't played that since the 90s so can't say for sure. Bottom left looks like some kinda later Gameboy/Advance thing but the top left looks like if they made SMB2 in the style of SMB1 which is interesting.
