Love the classic games and hate what happened to it. Surprised at how many bugs and bad art choices people have patched out over the years. Series definitely has a lot of ups and downs. First game is my favorite overall.

It's actually pretty smart. Keeping the hitbox for the entire sawblade would be way too taxing so this is a nice workaround.
In fact, I played the game dozens and dozens of times (no exageration) and I never noticed this and I doubt I'd ever have found out on my own.

What's also nice to see in this video is how the hitboxes don't match the sprites at all, nobody ever noticed, nobody ever felt like hitboxes were off in this game (okay, except maybe for certain phases of the gear boss)... Yet when some low grade ecleb makes a YT video about the hit detection being off 2 pixels in NES TMNT in a way that's even less noticeable than this, people start going like "I've always known hit detection was broken in this game honestly!"

>> No.10687706

Is that physique achievable without gear?

>> No.10687709

Yes, I wasn't being sarcastic.
I was blown away as well as it legit didn't know the hitboxes in the sawblade are so small, yet they work perfectly and give the illusion of covering the entire blade.

I am playing SotN now after playing all the other Igavania games and I honestly find it a bit overrated, the presentation is great but I just think most sequels were more polished and had more interesting mechanics

I love Symphony of the Night but it's very unpolished. I'm confused as to how there isn't a ROM hack or updated release of the game that adds basic quality of life improvements considering how popular and acclaimed it is. Stuff like
>Rebalancing the difficulty
>Making the menu easier to sort and navigate
>Being able to use items without equipping them
>Slightly more detailed map
>Slightly faster walking speed
>New Game Plus feature
>More music in inverted castle
>Maybe scaling enemies and weapons

We're nearing 30 years since this game came out and I can't find any version of this game with shit like this

Because you can get most of that shit from playing Aria/Dawn/Portrait/Ecclesia so people just play those instead. All of which have their own problems, but that just spreads the people with the skills, time, dedication to do it thinner

Castlevania has an incredible track record for how many good games the series has which makes it all the more depressing that it’s a dead franchise outside of Netflix adaptations. Most of the games are niche which is stupid

1987 was a pre-Mario 3 world, you would have a very good argument that Castlevania was the greatest action game on the NES at the time.
