I was thumbing through some old mags and saw this one. It's not the weirdest thing on the planet - a lot of companies had their own tiplines, but what is weird is that I found this ad in a 1992 issue of EGM. Every game featured here would have been a few years old already. I can't imagine that many kids were asking about help for Ultima Exodus or Dr. Chaos at this point (3-4 year old games, which would have been ancient in this era)

By the way, it's spelled Hani, not "Honey". It's short for haniwa, and a play on words (hence the commercial and 2P's name "Lemon" in the sequel). The second game "Hani on the Road" officially spells it that way.

That's what was hot in magazine graphic design in the very early 90's because of what computers could achieve
The 90's in general saw graphic design and pop culture evolving to showcase what new stuff they could do with personal computers
We went from white pages with cutouts showcasing the bold new font choices easily avaliable while still using analog images, to full page CG and digital bitmaps, with things getting bolder and more xtreme along the way because it became easy and anyone could do it
Computers were the reason the 90's were so into attitude (vector fonts, digital images, along of course video games as pop culture with silent pixel characters), absurdism (early 3D, the internet, CG effects) world music and easy listening (MIDI playback, business software, edutainment) among other things
It is happening today, we are about to see a total rejection of bland flat and corporate art now that anyone can use AI, and it will shape pop culture and social opinion as long as they don't take it away from us plebs

It says "fucking" so obviously its fake. I think people forget just how taboo saying fuck was. Even bleeping it on cable tv late at night was a very risky move, which is why South Park was so ground breaking in 97.

Same mate. Movie posters have also sucked for a long time, also music videos. Just use what works well instead of conforming to expectations, even try to stick out. When brands change their logos, that's also a retarded waste of money.

I particularly remember the ad campaign for this game. It was so dramatically different from everything else, almost movie-quality and somehow very dramatic. When I looked into the game I thought: What a scam. This doesn't look fun.

>>10705772
I would buy this based on the ad. Art joined with imagination does a lot for me.
