Game is a bit simplistic gameplay wise, probably aimed at younger folks.
Otherwise its perfectly fine for what it does.
Crash is better.

Spyro 1 is a great game. 2 is good but I wasn't a fan of 3. But funnily enough all three become great if you aren't going for 100%

Spyro 1 is great. Getting the gems is fun and the levels are well designed with genuinely clever secrets. Spyro 2 really drops the ball. I like some of the levels but they ruined collecting the gems. Instead of being placed in bunches in intuitive locations theyre placed as if the level designed tripped and fell carrying a box of them and it immediately gets annoying and tedious. Spyro 3 makes Donkey Kong 64 look tame.

Spyro 3 is ridiculous at times but honestly DK64 still takes the cake

How'd you manage to so royally fuck up your settings to the point that fucking Spyro of all games looks this bad?

in my case, it was because it was the only method that I figured out when I first played it. Didn't know about the intended super charge route until much later.

This is pretty interesting, actually. Spyro is an American-made platformer but it resonated better with Europeans compared to other ones for some reason. Maybe it's because the setting is more like a traditional fairy tale/fantasy with dragons, fairies and orc-like creatures? Though it probably boils down to the fact that there were a lot of N64 kids in American and the best platformers for that system were made by Rare and Nintendo. Which is extra funny when you consider that Rare is British and Nintendo Japanese...

ps1 was a lot more common in europe than n64. but im sure that the fairy tale setting also had a unique appeal. Im from europe and remember seeing spyro 1 ads on cartoon network and to an 8 year old me it looked mind blowing. At the time, I didn't know about the N64 or SM64, so Spyro was the first fully 3D game that I saw at all. I had played only SMB and some MS-DOS platformers (dangerous dave, prehistorik) up to that point, none of which I was able to get very far in the limited time that I had with them. Seeing the Spyro ads intrigued more than anything, because I couldn't wait to play a game where it was now possible go AROUND the enemies.

The non-American nintenfags perhaps. In America everything needs to be made into a bipartisan issue and if you like nintendo you have to HATE the other companies and viceversa

American here. Owned both N64 and PS1. Loved Crash, Spyro, Ape Escape, SM64, Banjo Kazooie, And had mixed feelings on DK64. I am not the exception that defines you're poorly laid out and very biased rule either.

my conception of it is not quite so clear cut. it wasn't sony fans vs nintendo fans as much as it was snes/gameboy fans vs the 64. that's when nintendo went from the the videogame company to its own small cult community.
