Eviternity map 26, the very end of the 'Silence' ( i believe the name was) cave part where you had to shoot switches in those shootable zones. for some reason both the switch behind the green armor and this switch to exit aren't working. any ideas??

That's you man. I respect your experiences and understand them but that's not how I feel and I want you to understand me. I don't particularly like being in hospitals but barren walls don't make me feel like I'm in one. Hospitals have a lot more in them that make them look likes hospitals than just plain walls. Like sick people, unpleasant looking machinery, etc. I guess as far as decorations go, I do like a nice rug but that's more of a necessity because I have hardwood floor. I don't need much more than a well-ventilated room, a bed, and some privacy to feel comfortable

I don't think you need posters or paintings or whatever (I have some, but whatever) but I do think some consideration should be out into paint, wallpaper, molding, and furniture tying a room together as a "place". I grew up with old victorian's and farm houses, churches, etc. Seeing a place with IKEA furniture and off-white walls off-white floors amd off-white ceilings, molding, blah blah jist feels temporary. Generationally pointless or something.
Not trying to shit on you, I don't think you need more to be happy, but I feel like there's some stunting of culture or something in places like that. Can't put a finger on it.
Whatever makes you happy though. There is something to be said for minimalism. My wife has all sorts of childhood toys and such all over the walls, and that's good for her, she takes good care of them and plays with them with our kids now. I have a lot less and that works for me because I don't care to dust all that. More things is more hassle. More to lose.

Kid Chameleon really is a good analogy, how the armor affects your weapons and other stuff is really cool (and must be a pain in the ass under the hood).

The opening is also horror kino. It's not necessarily relevant, but I just wanted to mention it.
Even later sections of the game have some dread-inducing gameplay in much the same ways as classic Doom 1/2 (e.g. falling down a hole being a potential death sentence for the unsuspecting), although Strange Journey gets much more tedious.

Isn't this roughly how the wrath enemies from the mission packs work? Playing that, I'd frequently just tank the damage of wrathballs since killing them quickly was safer or faster than trying to dodge that shit. If you reduced the damage of voreballs, I worry it would encourage a similar lazy behavior. For context, wraths also apparently have 400 health. Could possibly be accommodated with good level design.

On hard/nightmare wraths are used frequently in close quarters, so killing them means you took damage from their body exploding, which does far more damage than their wrathballs. That said, I did forget about them, but I like enemy variants a lot in my video games so I think I'll just go through with it.

That mod is kinda just too gimmicky overall. If you're going to do enhanced movement stuff in Quake, it should be in a way that is intuitive and makes the game FASTER. The grabby walls and awkwardly slow grapple that you can only use on specific places are genuinely awful.
The grapple + jump boots combo in Violent Rumble's Recreational Astrocide is probably the peak of Quake movement. I just wish there was more than one map like that.

Any anons with potato PCs can weigh in on vkDoom's performance improvements for them? I'm making a game on GZDoom and it relies on GZDoom features heavily. I finished quake remobilize.
I ended on this map, which was really cool visually. It didn't really have much in the way of new mobility except for climbing (and the few trampolines were as annoying as ever). I didn't like the layout at all because it involved quite a bit of backtracking to get from the silver key to the door.

Overall I have mixed feelings on the mod. Maybe the map jam made better use of the new features.

Overall I like TNT: Evilution but I don't love it. Half of the magawad is worth playing while the other half isn't. The six map slog does not do this wad any favors.

I played through "Enhanced" Quake on Hard and really felt like it's casual baby mode compared to actual Hard mode in sourceports like joequake or ironwail. The only buff to monsters I noticed is reduced chance of Ogres to be stunned with DBS blast.
Is it just me? I don't know, it feels too easy to combat groups of enemies in Kex engine compared to real Quake.

I mostly played Doom/Doom II as a kid. Never got into Duke. Not sure why, honestly I might have been too dumb to find out where to go in the second level. Climbing into the vent was probably beyond me.
But playing Duke for the first time, this game is amazing. No nostalgia for it, it's just really good. Can't wait to play Blood and Shadow Warrior. I think I'll probably go SW next because from everything I've heard Blood is probably going to end up being my favorite FPS of all time and I want to savor it.

Way better. The only reasons Build Powerslave doesn't stand with the other Build greats are because it's a bit more understated in its presentation and the original executable was almost unplayably buggy and sourceports came much later. On a game design level, I'd actually put it above Blood and on par with Duke. Excellent enemy roster, mostly good weapons, really smartly designed inventory system and good levels. It doesn't quite have the same feel as other Build engine games, it's designed more like a stepping stone from Doom to Quake.

Since sitting for longer periods of time isn't easy, maybe ask if anyone in your family has an old laptop they're willing to borrow you, maybe you could get lucky there.
For just running DSDA or Woof, and then UDB, you don't need too much modern power. Another option would be to explore mapping and playing on your phone, I could never get used to it, but the zoomers seem to do pretty ok with that.
