I fell into this stuff for the first time this year. I am fucking blown away by how many romhacks there are, and how crazy they get

Ended up playing a shitty one for Silver before I realized just how deep the rabbithole goes

It's really tempting to get into these but I just can't. No free time and I'm not that excited about Pokemon anymore. But man, if I were still a kid, holy shit.

Was going to play this until I saw it was full of OC pokemon. OC pokemon are cringe leave the designs to the pros.

My main problem with most of PKMN hacks is that some of added mons and design changes were just straight up ripped from DS games, that way it makes it jarring to look at it.
DS designs does not match in a GBA title because a lot of them are designed and shaded differently compared to GBA sprites. Vega nailed it by making new mons actually belong in a GBA title.
Compare a hack that just ripped Darkrai's sprite to Vega's Darkrai.

How about a CIA or NSA variant?

I keep up with romhacks, I think they are cool, but something holds me back from actually sinking any meaningful amount of time into them. I guess the returns are a lot less than a fully developed game. Has anyone ever just had an epiphany moment with these things or something akin to that? I just never see myself wanting to sit down and enjoy one. On the other hand I recognize the amount of time and effort put into them like any piece of art. I WANT to like romhacks, something just doesn't click when I play one though.

Pick 2 or 3 that look most appealing, then play during your bathroom break.

This is my favorite way to do it. Throw out all the shitmons from the new gens, keep only the good ones, and then add them to a gen 1 + 2 game

true but at least in clover the fakemon are literal jokes.
