How are those retro backlogs looking, /vr/? Why don't you take a minute to share what you've accomplished this year so far with us?

I'll start. Was playing Alisia Dragoon and Shatterhand at the same time a few months ago, stalled out on both when work started picking up. Started up Actraiser last night and already on the last continent, so I'm not expecting it to be long before I finish. Probably doing Shantae next.

Yeah I'm not going to waste time futzing with image editor.

BEATEN:
* Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord
* Wizardry 6: Bane of the Cosmic Forge
* Leisure Suit Larry 1
* Police Quest 1
* The Longest Journey
* Adventures of Lolo
* Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis
* Kirby's Adventure
* Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
* Wizardry 5: Heart of the Maelstrom

UNFINISHED or UNPLAYED:
* The entire fucking Megaman X collection. Everyone says Megaman X is easy, but I have poor reflexes.
* Anvil of Dawn
* Lands of Lore
* Stonekeep
* All other Leisure Suit Larries
* Phantasmagoria
* Police Quest 2-4 (actually, beat 3 when I was a kid, so... 2 and 4)
* Wizardry 7
* Loom
* Ultima 5, 6, 7 (these are nowhere near as addictive as Wizardry, so I play one per year)
* Prince of Persia (SNES)
* Wizards & Warriors (David Bradley's game, not the NES game)
* Dungeon Hack
* Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
* Dark Sun: Shattered Lands
* The Dig
* Space Station Silicon Valley
* Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages

...And a handful of NES cartridges I bought:
* Star Voyager
* Alpha Mission
* Magic of Shaharazade
* King's Knight
* Ikari Warriors
* Ghosts n Goblins
* Dragons Lair (yeah no, won't be playing this)
* Defender of the Crown (probably won't bother, either)
* The other "Wizards & Warriors"
* Hydlide
* AD&D Heroes of the Lance
* Blaster Master
* Astynax

>mfw that's just the tip of my unfinished backlog iceberg

The games on the right are my 'must beat' by the end of the year. I play a lot of modern shit too, so it's hard to divide my time.

Also, I play everything on cartridges. Just beat Rockman and Forte this afternoon. Felt good, man. Fucking Burner Man.

With a turbo controller (cheating, I know) it's really not that bad.I can generally beat both Reptyl and Firelord with one continue. The only problem I find so far in the game is the fin on the surfboard (which will ALWAYS hit something and ALWAYS kill you when you're not looking) and the amount of hits everything takes to kill (hence the turbo button, the game is basically designed like an autofire space shooter that they forgot to put autofire in).

Even without turbo it's not that horrible. I feel like people exaggerate the difficulty of the game immensely.

Done:
King's Quest I, II, III
Space Quest I
half of Leisure Suit Larry 1 and King's Quest IV

all the rest

I used a walkthrough for King's Quest 1, 2, and 4, and for Space Quest 1, but that's because I'm not a huge fan of King's Quest or Space Quest.

Front Mission (Series)

I don't know if I should count the completed ones, I've finished them many times before but most I replay at least once a year. I really want to get into a Front Mission, but I'm kinda limited on time, so I wind up restarting after playing and putting it down for a month or two.

Anyone got any good recommendations on romhacks for the beaten titles? I'm not looking for anything exceedingly difficult, bizzare, or anything like that, just something that adds levels for Mario or changes the world for Metroid. So many romhacks out there are usually completely different from the normal gameplay, or at least SMWs seem to be. No kazio, please.

For those looking at my "yet to play" list and thinking I'm insane, I know I can't and weren't planning to get through all of them by the end of 2013. The things I have as "I MUST beat this by the end of 2013" are just the Megaman GB games and Final Fantasy I-III.

The weird non sequitur games in the completed list are from the /vr/ Gauntlet.

Surprisingly not. I've also played through Megaman Unlimited and have plans to play through Megaman Revolution, Megaman Rock Force (I'm surprised I've never heard people talk about Rock Force when they talked about the first two fangames mentioned), RM4MI, and any other hacks that people might recommend.

There's just something about the Megaman formula I love. I have played through 12 classic-style games so far (I finished Wily's Revenge since making that image) and I'm nowhere close bored.

BK was a childhood game, that I had just never been able to finish because of massive childhood rage fighting gruntilda.

it's still one of my favorite games though. Every piece in it is so wonderful.

Sunshine was also a lot of fun, though that game can be frustrating as hell as well. Fuck that last area.

It's a very beautiful game though.

In another 10 years, I'll probably play through them again.
