Ive been feeling a bit sluggish lately, but sometimes powering through a block is the answer. Putting minor details on the alpine coaster. Amazing what a few rocks and effects can do to make a river look alive.

Also did some stuff for the launch. I wanted it themed after a big mine shaft/oil rig or something but I also wanted the apline coaster to go around it as well. Had a hard time trying to make it look good and I'm still iffy about how it looks. I like the coaster going through the wooden girders but it just looks sloppy to me. idk.

Also got a bit destracted and planed out a bit on what the middle island will be. I originally wanted a coaster to go around the pirmiter like I have, but I'm not sure which coaster. Right now it' just a junior coaster that I just whipped up in a minute to get some ideas. I think I might keep it the junior coaster but the boat ride around the island is called "boat battle" ride. The boats have water guns and you can place targets for the riders to shot at. At first I didn't want the coaster to get in the way of the boat battle targets, but maybe I will keep it and fine a way to incorperate them both and add some effects.

Hi. I'm new here. I bought Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 (Triple Thrill Pack) during the capitalism sale (lol) on Steam.

I played vanilla RCT2 for a couple days, then installed OpenRCT2 and played the OOB experience of that for a couple days. I'm not ready to dive into the deeper end of the pool.

Are there any decent non-content mods? Bug fixes? A way to build while paused without needing to use the cheats menu, or maybe a way to "queue" a roller coaster's construction so that the next parts are built as soon as they can be afforded?

Also anything awesome I learn here I will be passing on to my zoomer gf so any "for dummies" style guides would be nice too as I am a HORRIBLE teacher. I had her install OpenRCT2 using a reddit guide.

I don't think that is possible

Otherwise, you can try plugins.https://openrct2plugins.org/
I recommend the scenery manager, real-time ride stats, and the ride vehicle editor

Get RCT1 and point OpenRCT2 at the game files so you can play RCT1's scenarios. There are plugins like scenery manager that allow you to place buildings faster. There is one called "benchwarmer" that places path accessories automatically for you. And then there's the Park Rating Inspector from this post >>10638687 which shows you why you are losing park rating points.

Thanks! I'm still pretty iffy on it but I might just leave it then.

In the mean time I'm kind of jumping around now. I've decided to make the middle island a kids camp. Made some adjustments to the junior coaster and the boat battle. Still not really sure how to theme it. A bad part about Parkitect and RCT is that since everything is on a grid it can be har to gaudge and space things out since it all has to be square. I originally wanted there to be a thin boarder of trees around the island to section it off but with how big the coaster is I'm not sure how to make it more compact without it looking bad. I also want to add more rides and a section with more midway games and food but maybe that might be to much. Maybe I'll just put some basic food and that's it.

Also added some lights to the midway section of the miner town. Also found out that the midway games mod comes with prop peeps so I can put them behind the counters to make them look like they are actually staffed. Also found out there are other midway props such as a dunk tank, big wheel and bell ring. Bad part: the mod has tiny props for BB guns, rings, ect to put on the midway game counters but they aren't scaled right so they are either to low and clip through the counters of the midway games or too high and float above them.

Added some of these support props on parts of the coaster and it boosted the excitment almost to 70. Still not sure how well it looks. As you can see it's clipping because the prop is technically taller than the curve. Not really sure how I like it. Sadly this isn't like Planet Coaster where wooden coasters have dynamic supports so some of the sections if you look at them for the wooden coaster looks a bit weird.

Better progression overall. You start with simple parks, then work up gradually in difficulty and scale. There are a lot more unique challenges that RCT2 didn't have, like maintaining an existing park, or figuring out how to fix a mostly functional park. The landscapes are often way better than RCT2.

The difficulty curve in RCT2 is pretty nasty, because "easy" parks like Crazy Castle are deceptively difficult, and the Pay to Enter/Free Rides parks are difficult unless you know how to cheese them. RCT1's scenarios teach you how to play the game without needing to cheese anything. With RCT1, it's much more clear which parks are easy, and which are challenging. If you want your girlfriend (or any beginner player) to love RCT, start her out on the RCT1 scenarios.

This is the first scenario of Rollercoaster Tycoon 1. Forest Frontiers. It's super basic, with a 1 year scenario and a low guest count to clear. There's some land to buy if you want to keep playing, but you don't have to. It's the very beginning of the game, here to teach you the absolute basics.

>>10649035
This is the second scenario, Dynamite Dunes. Immediately, you'll note that the scenario is much different. You start off with a rollercoaster, a completely different landscape, and the objective is longer and more demanding. This one teaches you about landscaping. The giant dunes teach you that you won't always have flat land to build on, and the existing coaster will teach you to think outside of the box when it comes to design.

>>10649039
Next up is Leafy Lake. You start from scratch with a nice water feature to build around. It'll teach you about how to cope with large obstacles like lakes. It's a smaller guest objective than Dynamite Dunes, but you start from scratch. This one will teach you space management and planning skills.

>>10649046
And then the game really gets going on the next park, Diamond Heights. This one looks like a complete park, but has some twists to it. There are no food stalls built. The existing coasters might crash. The existing staff are inefficient. This one teaches you how to manage a park long-term. The objective is not about attracting guests, but building and maintaining the park continuously. This park also teaches you strategies for expansion... and, if you're really getting the game by now, it'll teach you how to edit existing rides.

From here, the scenarios evolve along these lines. The difficulty gradually ramps up. You'll get a good mix of parks with existing rides, blank slates with interesting landscapes, or some truly wacky stuff like mountains. RCT1 is the gold standard for scenario progression in a Tycoon game.

>> No.10649068

>>10649060
What I'm trying to get at is that RCT1 teaches you how to play the game bit by bit, while RCT2 throws you straight in, and assumes you already know how to play.

But even if you know how to play, there is replay value to every scenario. It's still rewarding to go back to the basic bitch parks like Forest Frontiers, because it has land for sale. There's little things like that which make every park worth replaying.
