10609215 No.10609215 [Reply] [Original]

Time to settle it: what's the best controller? No saturns allowed.

>> No.10609219

>>10609215
If Saturn isn't allowed then I vote for Dualshock or Dual Analog.

>> No.10609224

I wouldn't vote for the Saturn anyway. The top row of buttons are quite uncomfortable because of their bizarre nub shape. The SNES wins hands down. I prefer the rhombus over the square layout for the face buttons that became the norm.

This is not a terrible answer. The PS5 and Xbox Series X/S have two of the best controllers I've ever held. Yes, even for retro.

I haven't used a PS5 controller, but I'm planning to buy one and a PS1/2 Bluetooth adapter to use it for those systems.
I could use a dual shock 4, but I don't find it comfortable after using a series X controller.

I really like the Gamecube controller. I think Dualshock is better designed for general gaming but part of the reason I like getting as many of those Retro Game Collections for Gamecube as possible is because I like playing all of them on the Gamecube controller.
It just feels really nice in my hands.

I'd say it's the 8BitDo M30... but I've been having issues with mine. I'll be fair, I got this one cheap, I didn't even expect it to do so well for me, it's the Bluetooth version too, and I've had few issues on delay and things like that... but despite me loving the D-Pad, it's the part that's ruining it all, I'm not sure how common this issue is, but my D-Pad has been "sticking" when I press "Left" sometimes...

What I mean is that all other directions work fine, but sometimes, not all times, when pressing it, it just stays there and keeps inputing it despite me wanting my character to stand still, and it sucks.

It's happening for upper left diagonals too, but the main issue is simply going left, trying to stop, but the disk gets sort of stuck to it's surrounding housing and inputs when I don't want it to do so.

I've seen that one of the ways to fix this issue is by removing the D-Pad, which is somewhat easy to do as all that it takes it pulling it a bit harder, and cleaning it up a bit before putting it back in, and the issue has become way less pronounced, but it's still there, and I get the feeling that in the future even cleaning won't work anymore, what did I do wrong and what should I next time?

Has anyone here actually got the new RetroBit Saturn controller with analog sticks? I've been curious about this one for a while, but it having those Switch style analog sticks rubber me the wrong way... how does it actually feel to hold it though? Is it alright to use those analog sticks? I feel like this could be my favorite controller if it feels good to use them, it looks quite perfect.

My personal favourite is Gamecube because its so comfortable in my hands and I really like the button layout, the gated joysticks, as well as the general feel of the buttons and joysticks. I wish the c stick wasn't tiny though.

Trying to be a bit more objective though, it's the dualshock, it stood the test of time and got it right almost the first try, it set the standard for what game controllers should be from then on.

For 2D consoles it's the SNES. Best Dpad and buttons (don't like the start and select buttons though, but thats not exactly major), and it's basically the blueprint for the dualshock too. I kinda like the 6 button mega drive controller, but the snes controller has almost every button to hand except for start and select without any excessive movement.

Sony or Xbox from the 6th (I say it's the 5th generation) generation

Technically it's the one right after the Xbox original because the buttons aren't as rounded but they're both good. Ps2/late ps1 are also good

I would have a redesigned Xbox original controller because it's the best sized one and just flatten out the buttons and make it more tactile
