can AI enhance retro game framerate in the near future? there are many games i refuse to play because of the framerate.

>> No.10605238

you're retarded and that's not how that works.

Usually, retro games that chug do so because the CPU can't keep up. Look at an SNES emulator running Star Fox with and without CPU and SuperFX speeds up

AI ain't got nothing to do with that shit

>> No.10605243

the idea of "frame generation" in fact that: generating in-between frames using AI to save on rendering. but at the moment is gimmicky at best (only enhance framerates above 60fps), and even then the resulting generated frames are just motion-blurred tweens.

It makes it look "smoother", but it doesnt address input latency at all. Its just slop at the end of the day.

The game that the OP posted a gif from, Virtual Hydlide, runs at a slideshow framerate on real hardware. That's the kind of game they're talking about.

Not sure what that has to do with the fact the game runs like shit on original hardware. It's one of the biggest examples of this.

You have no idea if anything wasn't hardcoded to a certain framerate.

>> No.10607293

>>10605226
You can interpolate it to high framerates with AI interp models, but AI will never be able to reduce latency that is inherent to low framerate games no matter how high the apparent FPS is. If you don't care about input delay but do care about interpolation, then just wait for someone to inevitably make a solution for this.

>> No.10607353

If AI is so great why not just get it to make the perfect game.

>>10605226
It's hard to say. I feel like it can help, but knowing what I know about the way this works with TV shows and movie remasters, it might not look perfect. Actually optimizing the game will always be the best option in this case, but AI could make it look smoother even if not 100% accurate, at least in its current implementation
