it's just generally unappealing to me and i didn't enjoy it. my favorite FF is tactics. i thought 4 and 5 were kino, but i don't like random battles and "find the npc in the town with the repetitive annoying town music to advance the plot".

I played the demo as a kid where you had the Training yard t-rex fight and then the star gazing cutscene and for the longest time I thought Squall and Quistis were two lesbians

VIII is king and you actually do need a high IQ to enjoy it. The aura of elegance and magic is overwhelming and it feels like one of the most unique fictional worlds I've ever experienced in a game. Something about the attempt to make realistic looking characters really sets it apart from other jarpigs. I agree with the haters who don't like the orphanage thing - it really is retarded. But I love everything else about the game that I can look past that flaw. I've finished VIII a solid 20+ times since 99, but it has been several years now since my last run.

Great game, loved it when it was new and want to replay it sometime. One of the few classic FFs I haven't replayed since release. Cards were fun and the game is full of cool secrets.

Yes that is why they made Tetra Master in to a popular online card game back in the day. I used to be an extremely high ranked Hearthstone player and I can tell you the love of card games for me started with this one and the reason people on here dislike it is probably because you all are braindead PVE noobs who do not like putting thought or effort in to anything that could be remotely challenging.

probably a shitlost, but regardless, a lot of people back in the day thought this. The main reason they did is because outside of Pokemon and FFVII, thet never played anything more complicated thus saw FFVIII as somehow a big deal because as if dumping firaga into STR was an Einstein move. FFVIII is crap for many reasons, and i say this as someone who was mesmerized by its cutscenes at the time, but now even look at those as uncanny as fuck
