Not yet, it should be capable of sending 15hz signal but not natively (only 31hz). Get CRTemudriver (look up a guide) to make it work and set up Super Resolutions with it and Retroarch. Also unless you are using a vga monitor you should get a VGA2Scart adapter (or component) to actually connect it to the crt

Also can someone post the PS2 Modeline?

I'm asking since the RetroArch core and isn't very usable yet and hence I can't use SwitchRes.
But maybe it was just the Intel HD graphics I had been using before.

I guess without SwitchRes emulating this system on a CRT will be troublesome since it switches between interlaced and progressive on the fly.

Depends on the game, if you mean Playstation 2 , then most were 480i, but emulators can force 480p too or at least de-interlace 480i.
I think the standalone emulator is better than RA for now. If you want to use a super-resolution, you can always use stretch.

That's unfortunate. SwitchRes is really convenient. And those newer GPUs apparently don't have low enough Pxl clocks to go down to 240p/480i natively. So superres is needed.
Unfortunately I already pulled the trigger on that GPU and couldn't cancel the order
Let's hope it somehow has such a low pixel clock after all and I can display those resolutions. Though something like a low profile HD7450 wouldn't be more than 15€ and that should be able to handle those resolutions.

In my European shithole, arcades have been dead for 20 years, so I don't even remember how arcade monitors looked like. What's the image like? since people played at close distance to the screen, how noticeable were the mask and scanlines? do they have a sharp or a softer looking image? Also dither and transparencies depended on game. Some still had it like VSAV. But obviously dither isn't going to look transparent because those monitors use RGB.

Still on this topic, is it just me or it's harder to sit up close to a 27" flat screen than a curved one? I feel like the flat screen one is a little harder to look act. Can't really explain why.

The PCSX2 libretro core hasn't been updated in 2 years and most likely won't be very usable anytime soon. Same goes for Dolphin.

Setting up standalone PCSX2 to work with a CRT can be a pain in the ass but it's doable.
I use 2560x448i@59.94. You'll have to set aspect ratio to "Fit to Window / Fulscreen" to make it stretch to that resolution.
As for deinterlacing, I just leave it at auto. If you turn off deinterlacing, some games will have weird shaky graphical artifacts. I have no idea why that happens.

100% truth. Sometimes film grain is extra grainy because the anime or cartoon studio cheaped out and decided to use 16mm film instead of the standard 35mm film. Many anime studios are guilty of this because they wanted to cut costs. I collect anime cels, and it's surprising how clear and crisp they are compared to the anime they appeared in. Film grain isnt but silver halide particles are
https://www.tmax100.com/photo/pdf/film.pdf

Silver halide particles range from 0.2 to 2 microns so they can be absurd resolution but unfortunately grain limits the available resolution

It doesnt matter whether 16mm or 35mm
Scrubbing out film grain destroys detail and sharpness
Only way to somehow bypass it and get silver halide sharpness would maybe be with AI

Film can be more grainy also due to other factors

The most unforgettable horror porn game I've ever played. No other game had a bunch of elementary schoolers gangbang a teenage girl against a wall. And the teenage girl loved it. No other game I've played had a 17 year old bishonen guy drink a 14 year old girl's piss and chase her down the hall to rape her, only to wind up getting anally raped by a 32 year old fat man. I still remember the scene where a 16-17 girl was hiding under a bed as her same age best friend was having sex with that same 32 year old fat guy on top. She heard every moan, bed shake and sound. In the wrong end she was discovered under the bed by her friend and made to join. A most terrifying scene was when an unwilling girl relives another girl's sex memories. The girl in the memory consented but the reliving girl didn't. It didn't matter that she was mentally screaming, her body in the memory did all the motions and actions as in history. It's like mind control rape except the victim was fully aware. Another scene the same girl and a friend were almost raped in a magic sex ritual, saved by the girl's older sister, and the backlash made the older sister want to rape her younger sister and friend.

The loli in this pic is freakishly lewd and once disguised herself as a teenage girl, fucked a boy until he nearly came, transformed back saying
>You thought you were having sex with a highschooler weren't you? I'm an elementary schooler all along!
And leglocks that boy, forcing him to cum inside her unprotected, when he screams in fear upon learning this. This isn't even getting into the tentacles, the gay sex, the lesbian sex, the incest, the sequel's mother/daughter lesbian scene, etc. The first chapter alone contains lots of lesbian sex scenes with an unavoidable girl masturbating in the bathroom. Truly horror is intrinsically connected with sexuality.

I realize reading is hard for a retard like you so just this once I'll help you out with your reading comprehension. The original inquiry was the following:
>How do I isolate speaker magnets so that I can place my CRT next to them without them affecting the picture with their powerful magnets?
Now here's the hard part. Notice the following:
>so that I can place my CRT next to them
This is a conditional statement, you probably just glazed over it your first time around since you're so poorly equipped to deal with these, but fret not, we'll get through this.
Now, what is being asked here is what is needed to achieve the hypothetical scenario in which the CRT is next to the speakers in which they don't affect picture quality.
The "solution" proposed of separating the CRT from the speakers is not only not a solution, but it is completely irrelevant. The "solution" is actually a negation of the problem and the question asked. Sadly this is a very common occurrence not just in 4chan, but the Internet in general. As far as theories go for why would people feel the need to reply with such diatribe, the easiest answer is they either didn't read the question properly or they didn't think before answering, most likely a combination of both.
Since this post is quite large of course I don't expect you to actually read it through. And considering the fact you're more than likely to answer to posts without reading them, I expect your reply to fall within the "too long, didn't read" type of posts that your kind uses to save face (unsuccessfully). The smartest move would be to simply not reply and just take the L.

I don't know if it's the PSP's fault, but some games don't fill the entire screen. Tested with both cables and Threads of Fate has a black bar on the bottom. Tested on another TV and now it has black bars on 3 sides. I think the games are just not scaling properly, but it sucks that the PSP doesn't let you fix that.

>There's nothing special about them.
I would say their lack of any kind of screen mask is a special difference from a normal CRT.
They also just have a different quality of image that has a certain look and feel to it. For instance they have chromatic aberration due to the 3 separate CRTs all being magnified through large lenses.
I have owned both front and rear projection CRT monitors btw.

I know quite a lot about them from personal experience and I know that is not true, especially of the front projection type.
Rear projections can also look great when they are well calibrated and have good lenses.
The cheap RPTVs of consumer market are not indicative of the entire tech concept.

Did the situation where you put the speakers next to TV and it distorted the colors actually already happened to you or you're anticipating the problem based on some shit you've heard? Like your TV is likely already got speakers on the inside right next to the tube and that shit is NOT shielded.
You need huge PA speakers for magnets in them to be an issue

>>10583708
The speaker of that size is already not distorting shit unless you push the driver straight into the fucking screen, there are legitimate cases for paying extra for those but CRT safety is not one of them (and unless it's some PVM bullshit with mono speaker on the bottom the sound quality from a normal TV would be about the same as those tiny shits)

i got my first rgb lead years back for my ps2, after someone gave me an ntsc copy of SoTC, it played in black and white on my pal trinitron using stock sony av cables,

when i got the cable i didnt really notice much difference in picture quality, i just remember it making the picture and colours darker, that was back in 2005,

recently i dug my ps2 out and plugged it in to an old lcd with the stock sony av cables, and it looked absolutely potato as shit, it was so bad there was no way i could enjoy playing anything, i dug out my old rgb cables, it has a switch to change between AV/RGB, set to av it looks just as shit as the sony cables, set to RGB, fucking POW!, the colours just pop, and the image sharpens up alot, i realised this is how its supposed to look, with stock av (composite) the colours are faded and washed out with brightness, for me its now RGB with everything, no going back.

my 29" trinitron is in storage, but i have my old amstrad cpc/6128 monitor from 1984, which has been sat in my loft for 25+ yrs, just found out its a 15khz rgb monitor, i plugged in my ps2, and the picture is so bright and vibrant and everything is so sharp, much like ur pic it puts lcds to shame,

heres espgaluda on ps2, tate which outputs 240p natively, the video doesnt do it justice but at the title screen at the end of the vid you can see how good it looks but only for a fraction of a second

heres another, thunder cross on ps2 also outputting 240p natively, my monitor is pal 50hz, when i play a 60hz game i do get a colour pictue but the screen rolls. lucky theres a v-hold knob on the back of the monitor, so i can get a stable 60hz image, but how is it other pal tvs ive had never have screen roll with a 60hz ntsc signal? instead they just display a black and white picture.

also in my vid am i actually getting ge-u-wine 240p scanlines? it looks like there there then there not, its hard to tell since most pics i see are fake generated over emphasised scanlines

If the magnetic strength is too large. You could reduce it by placing metal sheets either side of the CRT. That's what I used to do back when I had big speakers next to my monitor.

Usually 180ohms from pin 8 to 16. Though pin 8 I think is part of the Scart standard but no usually used by consoles. Variable voltage is a bitch, there's sometimes digital jungles that are voltage dependent on the input whether the rgb is analog or not. You can hack them with a bus pirate but it's a mission and usually easier to just go with an older television that has separate OSD and Jungle chips.

it's not super rare. good amount of hd tvs out there. it's just kind of a crapshoot because there's three different ways a tv can display 480p, each with varying levels of input lag. that and a lot of them are widescreen. and their inputs vary. there's also the matter of different standards for component. i'd say it depends on what you want to use it for when it comes to whether a monitor would be better. monitors that can do 70kHz and higher tend to have defined scanlines when displaying 480p.

That's every VGA monitor you can get for close to free anywhere. Though honestly I don't think CRTs are worth it beyond 15KHz.
240p games straight up look different on CRT than on LCD screens, while 480p and up games just look sharper in their native resolution and that's it, everything else is the same.

pc --> hdmi-rca converter --> trinitron

ok thanks for this comment, i debugged it one by one. the culprit is the
"cheap" converter. i have an hdmi-rf one which is way fancier and it outputs in 4:3 properly. the thing is i obviously want to use rca. and the only converter being sold online seems to be this one or a variation thereof, it's not like i can upgrade to anything it seems. dead end?

Nothing is ever a dead end but you'll have to fuck around and it's not going to be cheap.
Off the top of my head
HDMI to VGA -> Extron VSC -> composite (only outputs 480i)
or
Crtemudriver -> HDMI to VGA -> VGA2NTSC adapter -> composite (can do whatever resolutions you want but you'll need a compatible graphics card)

If you just want to watch anime though consider a separate device that can output composite normally, like PS3 or RPi or something.

Yeah, please post more.
The only pic I managed to find of mine is this. It's from 2009, after we'd already replaced it with a 40" LCD, but before we moved it out. The plaster fell off from the ceiling and my mom took a few photos of the mayhem. Looks like it's not exactly the same model, judging by the Flatron logo, but close enough.
After that, my grandma used it for a few years and then my dad set it up in one of the rooms upstairs at her place. He must've dropped it at some point and then it just wouldn't turn on, so he threw it away.
Maybe I'll get another one like it if I find it for sale nearby someday. Lots of CRTs still around, so there's a good chance for that. I got myself a few good TVs in the meantime (mainly late-90s Trinitrons), so it's not like I need it, but it would certainly be cool for the nostalgia value.

Try taking the photos in a dark room with no other light sources besides the TV. 1/60 shutter speed, ISO as low as you can, eyeball the white balance so it looks like what you really see. A bit of playing with manual focus should help, too. It will make your pictures much better. As for the rotation, remvove the EXIF before posting and then rotate manually if it's wrong.

Did a power cycle. I could see the iconic flash when turning on the TV, display kind of wanted to fade in from black, but just gives up half way through and fades out again, stays black.
I know for a fact controls still work since volume can be changed no problem. Changing the Picture Mode to something less bright than "Vivid" did nothing.

It is superb to downscale.
I downscaled a bunch of BlueRayRip 1080p Anime/Series down to 480p h.264 mkv.
The wii with WiiMC can handle several audiotracks and several subtitles, so MKV is a great option to contain all of those along with the main video.

Do not forget, the higher the Wii can go is 480p encoded with h.264, h.265 is too complex for the wii.

I had this same issue. Wii was too slow and the software was kinda buggy even after you transcoded. Ps3 is similar. I was broke and had a rpi3b. Get libreelec on a sd, get the older version, which has better codec support for more popular media formats because there's all sort of fuckery with hardware decoding of media and raspberry pis drivers. It looks pretty good desu. CRT spergs will bitch about its composite out quality but at least you can start playing media asap. The only pain in the ass is setting up all the video config settings for composite out and dealing with the overscan.

eventually I'm just going to replace it with a htpc and a VGA to component transcoder so I can emulate systems I don't feel like buying.

>If it's an old show suitable for CRT there should be torrents with 480p dvd rips around, don't need to convert.

This, JUST _BEAR IN MIND:_
From a couple of years now, content from 480p sources has been circulating encoded with newer codecs (i.e. h.265) for better compression and quality. So yeah, torrents we downloaded of the complete Dragon Ball in 2012 with DVD rip 480p quality, will play, because h.264 was the best codec back then.

The Wii plays h.264 encodes, but NOT h.265 which is the codec used for most NEWER anime encoded to 480p in TELEGRAM.

I get many series from Telegram, and specially new content which has been downscaled for mobiles and low bandwidth for 3rd world (expensive data rates) uses h.265 because it has better compression and modern Android devices have no problem with it.

So yeah... all my older torrents of movies and series I got with perfect DVD quality/rips in the 2000 to early 2010s they all play perfectly in the Wii.

For example, I had a 360p version of Clarissa Explains It All I downloaded in 2008ish... it was ok for the time, it uses h.264 codec so no issue with the Wii, but I wanted better quality so I found the series in 480p, ripped recently, and it was already h.265, so it would not play (only audio).

So I re-encoded a bunch of media for Telegram, search in telegram "480p h.264" and you will find my channels.

Back to the issue, HandBreak is great to re-encode and as long as you do not mind for file size, you can get incredibly neat 480p videos from BlueRay sources, it is incredible how good it gets when you do not mind huge files.

Ah, if you want to make sure what codec some video is using for compression (whether h.264 or h.265), then run the video in VLC Player and press "Control+J", it will show all the info on the video/audio the first line will show the codec.

What do you need a bigger res for if everything you're gonna do is play media files? Get a terminal-based file manager like FAR, run it full screen, bind mpv to all media file extensions and voila. All you'll need is arrow keys, enter, spacebar, Q and F, maybe # and J for switching audio tracks/subs. You can even use a gamepad with custom mappings to keys/shortcuts if you want.

As far as what I wanna spend? I dunno? As much as I gotta to get it working the way I want. Just want to be able to watch 4:3 media on my CRT. CRT are blessed artifacts whose design was given to us from god. A secret priesthood had been slowly guiding humanity for hundreds of years until we ready to receive the most sacred of devices.

But then the evil LCD cultists came, they used foul rituals to spread an evil miasma across the land to bewitching the minds of people tricking them into buying LCDs. But they were impatient, in around 2010, they had had enough, CRTs had still not quite died, so they launched an all out assault on the priesthood, and destroyed all the hidden temples.

Remember how CRTs seemed to disappear almost overnight, without the sacred priests to bless the CRT factories, workers found they could no longer make them. The world government covered it all up.

If that box got an actual video output install plex on it, set resolution to 640x480 and run the video into something like Extron VSC to downscale and transcode to component.
If not you'll need another PC to use as a player, might not even need a downscaler if you get an old enough graphics card. Like I've got a 7600GT with component output (that I can't use because my TV got scart)
