Are there certain retro games that only feel right for you to play at certain times of the day/year?

For example, I can only ever play pic related at night time.

I oddly know what you mean. I can’t play Blinx the Time-sweeper & Tokyo Xtreme Racer during the day and I can’t play Crazy Taxi at night. I feel like it ruins the vibes of the those games.

i dont think ive ever thought about such a thing. i mean obviously if you play a horror game at night, its probably gonna be more effective. but i cant say ive ever had the urge to play a game but decided not to because of the time of day.

I had a weird mandella effect thing with nights, always thought it was a dreamcast game

Have you guys ever noticed how the Sega Saturn had a lot of games that felt right to play at night and in colder weather, while the Dreamcast had nothing but summertime games that only felt right during the day? This isn't the case for the whole library, but I generally associate the Sega Saturn with cold nights and the Dreamcast with summer days. The entire 6th gen of consoles had a general summer feel, though.

Well, that is probably the reason it is called... NiGHTS into Dreams ಡ ͜ ʖ ಡ

>>10578208
Makes sense since most Saturn games had sequels on Dreamcast. NiGHTS also had an entire minigame in SA1. I thought Popful Mail and the Lunar games were on Saturn for a while, which technically the latter are, but the more well known ones I was thinking of were the original SCD versions

I noticed this too, though in my case it is also because my first experiences with both consoles were in the summer, during the night and day respectively. In Saturn's case it was literally just one night at my cousin's house until I started emulating it a few years ago

That's because the Sea Saturn is associated with the planet Saturn. I'm not sure which planet the Dreamcast was associated with. Dreamcast and GameCube feel summery to me but PS2 and Xbox were both night aligned consoles

Naw, now you’re just pushing it.

True, all games consoles have different games, some feel better suited to being played in the day, others feel better played at night.

i prefer to only play klonoa at night, fitting since its also about dreams. i also prefer to only watch anime at night, since it makes it easier for me to immerse myself in the setting. i typically play more racing games around the holiday season going into new years, while i play more jarpigs around late winter-spring, and i play platformers more around late summer-fall. its not a hard limit i set on myself or anything, and i'll sometimes play them at other times of the year, it just happens to be the times i get into the mood to play them again the most, so ive come to associate them with different times of the year.
