Honestly the only thing that will kill the Miyoo Flip is if it can only do PS1/limited DS and N64 like the Miyoo Mini Plus. Hoping they don't go full retard and at least make it as powerful as the RG35XX+.

I agree. Closest thing to it I've ever owned or used is the R36S and even then I feel they're pretty low on the device. They also stick out like three times more than they apparently do on the Miyoo Mini Flip, so I have no idea how little actual control those sticks are going to have, unless they're actually shitty analog sliders like the PSP/3DS use and just look like Joycon analogs.

The DS was always just a wider SP, they have identical hinge designs. It's what caused the problems for Nintendo back in the day as the original phat's hinge would become stressed from the added weight of the DS's top screen/speakers compared to the SP where it worked fine.

I'm thinking of getting one, but don't know how comfortable, or uncomfortable, it would actually be, the idea of playing on a tablet, with a larger screen, and more resolution, than a smartphone, is quite tempting, especially since shaders work a lot better than in smartphones for that reason, I feel skeptical about it being comfortable to hold.

I hope everyone here had a good Christmas and new year, these times are always special. It's nice to see that these threads have remained a staple, I hope 2024 will bring the handheld market a lot of exciting new stuff. I'm still using my controller and smartphone combo, it serves me well, mostly in trips, but also to play in bed, and to pick it up, or put down, quickly, when the missus needs me.

I hope we actually get telescopic controllers with the "PlayStation" layout this year, so symmetrical sticks on the bottom, but I'm not too optimistic... symmetrical on top works, but bottom is best...

Also, managed to finish GBC Spider-Man thanks to this setup, barely had much time to play, so it being so quick helped. It's a good MetroidVania with a superb dark atmosphere and OST, love it.

>>10569306
Are there even that many options? I know of the PG9083s for tablets, but that's about it, it must be hard to design one as they can't be too wide, since the whole thing is already big enough, but they need to hold a large device and remain a bit comfortable at least, I might get a tablet later in the year, and I know my current controller won't fit, so I hope a good one pops up at some point.

Actually it's the complete fucking opposite, the device being smaller than the SP means that the entire device by default is going to be more cramped than the SP, and for those analog sticks to fit with the screen closed, they're going to be impossible to fucking use properly.

It's smaller vertically, not horizontally. So this will have no effect on hand cramps, retard. The sticks will be just like the vita sticks on the retroid pocket, or the switch sticks on r36s. They're able the make them recessed by putting that part of the board all the way against the back plate. Then, you add some height to the bezel of the top screen so there's a gap. Inside, like a pocket.

if you don't use them, they're harmless. Derp. They haven't taken away from anything else, that's just empty space on the sp.

I don't have an image but I can speak for my experience

Odin 2:
- Amazing ps2/GC/3ds/Wii emulation (upscaled at x3 resolution with texture packs without a problem), anything below that is just guranteed to run flawlessly, it can do SOME switch games more than fine (main titles and indie games)
- Amazing 8000 mAh battery with fast charge, the thing goes from 0 to 100 in about 1h 30m with a 100W charger
- Good ergonomics given it's sizeable grips, buttons and joysticks are superb despite looking small
- Android device so you can play any native android game that supports a controller or you can map the controls to touchscreen buttons with a built in app
- Android device so you have to config everything to make it look good (but it is worth it)

Miyoo Mini +:
- Good enough emulation up to ps1, you can setup shaders or overlays to make the games look prettier
- No joystick for good pocketability
- Ok battery for what are you going to play there (6 hours or so depending on the system)
- Front buttons feel good but the shoulder buttons are so fucking garbage to the point I strongly avoid play any game that need them
- Linux device with some CFW options (OnionOS is the only good one tho, braindead to use and config)

If you have more questions about them I could answer them

Anyone here have any experience with replacing a DS screen? I've always wanted to resurrect the poor old think ever since my fat fuck friend in highschool sat on it, but back then when I checked it into fixing it Nintendo wanted like a hundred bucks, and my parents very graciously bought me a new DS Lite instead. Now replacement screens on aliexpress are like $10, and it sounds like all I have to do it pop the top open and swap it. Is this even the thread/board to be asking this? Basically just wanted to ask if it's as easy as it sounds.

I wish these had plastic screens. Game Boys are meant to be rugged, and having a glass screen means you can't throw it in your jacket pocket as easy without worrying about scratches/breakage.
You can always apply a glass screen protector to a plastic screen, which always leaves you with the option to swap it out if it ever becomes too scratched. Falls won't shatter a plastic screen though.
Switch did it right (and so did the Wii U, Game Boys etc)

I never even considered that as an option. But I essentially want a stick with full xinput I can use for emulators & indie games & vs fighters & beat'em'ups.

The prebuilt ones I've seen don't seem to have all the inputs, and I've seen people build them connected to fightboard PCBs with the installable buttons. I imagine I could do similar, but wire it to an xbox controller PCB.

But paying someone else to build me a custom fight stick - maybe? Sounds expensive, and probably with a pricey import fee. I'll have to look into it.

And with their tips being twenty times larger than the tip of a DS stylus, you're better off just using your finger on those screens. Found a Soulja Sup Boy at the thrift store for $4, complete with micro USB second player controller despite the box saying it doesn't come with one.
The actual device itself sucks. It's made of the same basic Gameboy Famiclone material (since it's the same company, literally just adding "SUP" to their own products because Soulja Boy paid them to), but the basic Gameboy Famiclone at least feels like a light Gameboy Pocket. Everything about this one's design is awful to hold.

Your index fingers want to naturally rest in that little groove between the screen and bottom half, but they're too small even for my fragile girlish twink hands. The d-pad and face buttons are too close together, you can't avoid your thumbs touching. The entire d-pad presses in when trying to do any direction, it's just one big button, total shit and barely works for navigating the 500-in-1 game list let alone playing any of the games. Reset, Select, and Start are all one solid piece so Select gets pressed when pressing either other one due to being in the middle, not to mention they're in the middle between the screen and the bottom half inside some lip that's deeper than the Reset/Select/Start button(s), you'll be pressing the bottom half of the screen by mistake every time you go to press one. Only positive thing I can say about the entire device is the screen is actually good for a famiclone, perfect 1:1 scqling for NES titles, no visible ghosting, but ot's a half inch down behind a plastic protector. I think originally the gigantic bezel sticking out wasn't intended but then they wanted the screen half to be the same height as the bottom half or some shit.

Seriously though, there is no hole or transparent plastic for the power light indicator to be seen when the device is powered on, but you can clearly see a purple power light inside the device through the cracks around the micro USB port. This is the epitome of chinkshit and is now the third worst famiclone that I own (out of now ten different types).

I never would have ever bought this if it wasn't only four Canadian maple leafs and came with the controller.

I've been watching for the R33S to hit Aliexpress but likely won't bother getting one, unless an early bird special has one under $35. Otherwise I am planning to get a GKD Pixel and a RP4 (likely not a plus) later this month. Can't think of anything else. I've lost all interest in 1:1 devices and I have no faith in the Miyoo Mini Flip or Anbernic Flip SP.
In non-chinkheld categories though, The Frog Boy Color. I'm going to see if it's possible to buy one pre-assembled with specific colours for the front and back of mine.

As far as I can tell, pre-orders straight up aren't allowed on Aliexpress. You can only list products you have and are ready to ship. In Retroids case, they generally don't bother selling on Ali until they've caught up on all their orders, which is usually months after shipping starts. Even then, they never sold the 2S through their moorechip store afaik.

Eh? I've only ever seen GB300 units being sold for the same price as the SF-2000, which doesn't seem honest at all considering the GB300 uses Gameboy Famiclone plastics while the SF-2000 feels like an actual SNES controller with the quality of its build. Nice, I was dying for more footage. Retroid only showed GoW being played and then fucked off entirely despite these being new chips for them. Meanwhile they made two half-hour videos for the Flip demoing a billion different games despite it literally having the exact same chip as RP3+. Even the 2S with its chip that's basically just a babby t618 got a 15 min video showcasing a decent handful of PS2 and gcn.

That's the thing, I have small hands but the mere shape of it makes it impossible to hold like a normal Gameboy. The only way I could hold it without anything getting cramped or fingers/thumbs squishing together is if I hold my closed fists with my thumbs resting straight up as if I'm going to hit a volleyball, with the Sup Boy sitting on the meat of my thumb/palm portion. But then using even a normal d-pad this way would be so unprecise, let alone with this fucking thing.

Keep in mind this is assuming you're buying these things at their proper Aliexpress prices and not some bait-and-switch store that tries to charge you more by adding shipping costs, or worse buying them at a local convention or pawn shop for $15-20.
Three out of the four famiclones on the left (the brown, cheap red, and light blue) are by the same company, they're all basically the exact same thing just with a vaguely varying shapes to them. Never buy that shit ever unless you see a super deal for one at $1.49, that's less than a gumball.
The MyArcade black on, third from the left, is one of the ones from Amazon they charge three times more for than they're worth. You can sometimes find MyArcade handhelds on Aliexpress but they're always more expensive than their Amazon listings. Not worth it, even to see 16-bit romhacks of NES games using the wrong characters (my favourite being Goemon on a surfboard), I only got it because I found it used for $5 and even $5 is too much for it.
The original famiclone comes in tons of colours and has a couple of variants by the same company, like the shitty black Soulja Sup Boy pictured beneath it. This new purple one looks really sexy. They're the ones most commonly seen at conventions and pawn shops, bought in bulk then sold to ignorant parents for $15-20.
The Q# series is a step up from everything before it, with a higher quality plastic, form, and they come in tons of neat tropical colours.
The chicken and the credit card ones cost more than the rest but are also higher quality and have novelties to them, such as the credit card one's incredibly slim size or how the chicken (and tiger variant) hack some roms to make the main character a chicken with shades/tiger. I think $15 for these is fair, but due to their size they will not be something you play for a long session. Love those fucking flat, clicky face buttons and d-pad.

And then Retro Max. Made from Anbernic quality plastic but feels stiff. Feels JUST like a GBP

Probably not. There are four versions, the V1, V2, V3, and V4. V1 has a slightly different design than the others, but the others have a shell that's an improvement over the original's. However, only the original V1 has the proper screen. V2 has the worst screen, while I believe the V3 and V4 have the same screen as each other, but they're not quite the right aspect ratio. V3 is most infamous for breaking/screen popping out.
Only way to get a V1 is through a reseller, scalper, or second-hand and none of those three options are going to have reasonable prices for what it is. You're better off getting the Miyoo Mini Plus, or even the GKD Pixel.

General consensus is that it's really underpowered. To put into perspective, for $50 less you can get the RP4 Pro now which is actually more powerful and for $50 more you can get the Odin 2 which is way more powerful. But the Loki Zero has the niche of being the most budget friendly x86 handheld if you want to run PC games natively on a handheld even though you'll only be running the most lightweight games on it.

Thats why your handheld will fall apart within a year and you'll be buying a new one every year to upgrade from shit to not as shit, while the "new" 3ds hasn't been "new" since 2015 but you'd foam at the mouth at the idea of your chinkshit playing ajy of its games comfortably.

Chinkhelds within this past decade have gotten much, much better. In some cases they're actually better in terms of build quality than shit from actual console manufacturers like Sony with the abortion that is the PS Portal.
Plus here's the thing, I have an N3DS XL, but I barely use it because it's not comfortable to hold and because it's library isn't really the greatest to begin with.

>>10576361
It's better, but not by much. The screens arent that much better, the 3D effect still doesn't work that great for me and is still a gimmick, buttons and D-pad are still "meh", you may as well hope that emulation reaches a point to where we can play 3DS games but in a better format on the go.

I disagree a lot. This might be a controversial opinion, but square shaped handhelds seem the most comfy.

The RP4/Odin Lite are generally better buys for what you pay for, mostly because they have stronger chipsets. The RG405m should still do you okay if you want a pocketable device, just don't expect it to be a "budget GC machine" as some channels like Wulff Den love to play up. Even the Odin Lite is sort of pushing the limits for budget Gamecube, as you'll need to use Dolphin MMJR1 for good experience.

It doesn't have to do absolutely everything - from a device this size, I'm interested in N64/PS1 at most. Besides, I have a Steam Deck for more advanced stuff, or I can just use a PC. Also hoping I don't get Jewed on import duties, since reviews of the store say they ship as duty paid.

Phone with telescopic controller chads, I see now why you all suggested it. This shit is fantastic, ended up getting a OnePlus 7T instead of the Motorola an anon suggested, but the experience so far has been great. The one silly part is having to do an exploit to unlock the bootloader (Turns out the T-Mobile variant is bootloader locked and you need to be a customer to get permission to unlock normally), but now I got Lineage OS on it with RetroArch and its a blast. Super Mario World hacks with 2 frames of runahead feels amazing and playing DC Rayman 2 in widescreen for the first time is stunning. Though, one thing, the crap bundled with the default OnePlus OS was insane, even worse before I converted it to a normal 7T rom from the T-Mobile rom. Are all smart-phones this n***erlicious, or is OnePlus just particularly bad about it?
