I think it's criminal how hard this series got slept on while it was still alive and even today. It's got the best feel of any 3D fighter, the fighting is super fast, the animations all hit like a fucking truck, there are no wet noodles in this game and everything is super satisfying to pull off and watch.

It also has technical depth and nuance that got ignored by the supposedly-hardcore FGC, which really only cares about what gets the most marketing since they're all grifters at the end of the day.

Too bad this series' scene is so small and completely dominated by two guys these days, and owned by fucking Konami of all the possible hells to be damned to.

Bloody Roar 4 was terrible and killed the franchise. It's a rushed, kind of a technical mess of a game build upon the GameCube game but incredibly more dumbed-down and with framerate issues. There's no balance in it whatsover and the beast bar essentially worked as a second health bar, making the matches padded on and turning Beast Form into a suicide button. Career Mode was also dogshit, so was the story and localisation.

I recently emulated the first game on a whim and had a blast. Definitely a series I wish I’d paid attention to as a kid when I’d been able to play it locally with friends.

Really hope psx gets added to fightcade soon, I think that would help this game/series a lot. Not that I expect or even want a modern one, I’d just like it to be easy to find matches with people.

BR1 was the greatest fighting game in the late 90s imo, I loved that shit more than Tekken 3. Then in later games they removed cool characters and gave their moves to lamer ones.
