Solar bit flips are real and happen now and then across the digital spectrum. Had it happen on a PC once that was running an NES emulator, and instead of breaking something, it fixed it, so it can cut both ways.

I use RetroArch for pretty much everything, but then again you still have to use specific cores within it, mine are:
>NES: Mesen
>SNES: Snes9x
>GB/GBC/GBA: mGBA
>SMS/SGG/SMD/SCD: Genesis Plus GX Wide
>PS1: SwanStation
>PSP: PPSSPP
It's all I really need at the moment.

I laughed out loud when Emudeck set this shit as the default steam grid pic for the emulator. Positively grotesque. Troons do great emulation work thanks to their autism but would it fucking kill them to leave their fetishes out of it?

Anyway, chill out mods, getting back to the thread. I abandoned Retroarch after a year or two of using it and have never looked back:

>NES: Mesen
>SNES: BSNES
>Mega Drive: Blast Em
>N64: Mupen GUI
>PS1: Duckstation (No, Mednafen is not better just because it doesn't have a GUI)
>Dreamcast: Flycast
>GBA: mGBA
>GB/GBC: Honestly can't remember, Same Boy or Gambette or something. They're all the same.
PS2: PCSX2 (duh)
Gamecube: Dolphin (duh)

Use my MiSTer and its cores more than any software emulators though.

I don't like playing games as much as I like fixing hardware. Try it sometime.
It's more satisfying and a more useful hobby than just playing games, so I will happily agree that I don't try to just autistically consoom as many games as possible as efficiently as possible.

There is zero reason to use epsxe these days other than "I used it 10 years ago and it was alright" and Swanstation is an outdated Retroarch build of Duckstation.

>I used it 10 years ago and it was alright
Going by how old-fashioned the retro community is, I would expect this to be an even more common mindset desu. If anything, I'm surprised so many people use more "recent" emulators. A few posts above, when people were arguing about RMG for political reasons, I fully expected someone to defend Project64 or something.

Saying you're into retro games while emulating is like saying you're into classic cars because you play Gran Turismo. Obtaining and restoring/maintaining the hardware is part of the experience.

>> No.10535607

>>10535481
When you played these games twenty-something years ago at most you'd blow the dust off the cartridge, and that was it. You didn't have to replace damaged cables, you didn't have to resolder blown capacitors, you just played the game, and that's the goal of emulators. Restoring old tech is an honorable hobby but it certainly isn't a core part of liking retro games.
