Been enjoying these type of pinball games recently. This sort of game seems to range from proper pinball simulation to being more gimmick focused or franchise themed games, with action or mini-game elements. A lot of them are on handheld systems, so are designed around the limitations of a handheld screen. Mario Pinball Land has an adventure type mechanic where you need to collect stars to open doors at the top of the courses. With enough stars you can shoot the pinball through a door into the next course.
Pokemon Pinball Ruby and Sapphire has two more traditional pinball "machines", but there's a pokemon catching mechanic with a full pokedex to complete, and fulfilling certain conditions sends you to mini-game courses.
My favorite so far has got to be Metroid Prime Pinball. It uses the DS screen layout to present a full pinball machine. There's no camera tracking the ball, or squished courses to fit a smaller handheld, and the morph ball mechanics from Prime are a natural fit for mixing up pinball.

These are great games to pick up and play for a few minutes.
Discuss Pinball games
Anything from traditional stuff like 3D Pinball Space Cadet to more fully fledged games like Sonic Spinball.
Hell, let's not limit it to pinball: I'm interested in games like Kirby's Dream Course too. Anything relaxing with simple arcade gameplay, starting with Pinball as a theme and branching out

No one seems to acknowledge that that's actually a demo. Try the full game.

True, it's been ages since I've actually played it. I'm sure it's pretty memorable for a lot of people being packaged with Windows XP

Good pinball game from Digital Illusions (DICE), makers of Pinball Fantasies and some other games like Battlefield-series, Mirrors Edge etc.

Love pinball games. I thought Devil’s Crush was an awesome game when I was a kid. A family friend had a TG-16 and I would always play that one when we visited. Loved the 3-tier layout and the game just seemed really mysterious, you never knew what kind of creature you were going to expose if you hit the center face enough times and getting to the uppermost table was always a thrill. Also had Pokémon Pinball for GBC, fun game but I could never get very far and it got pretty repetitive after a while. My all-time favorite was 3D Ultra Pinball: Creep Night for the PC, god that game was fun and the horror-themed tables were amazing. Need to download and fire that one up again, haven’t played it since the 90’s.

Wow Devil's Crush looks unnecessarily rad

Both those games look great desu. I wonder if Ultra Pinball Creep Night is abandonware?

From my assortment of PC Pinball games, some that stand-out:
Addiction Pinball

I loved the Pokemon Pinball game on GBC back in the day (the GBA one is also great), but you should also check out the Bethesda Pinball tables on Zen Pinball 3.
The Doom one is super satisfying to play, and the Skyrim one is an entire RPG with a character with stats and items that carry over across Game Overs.
It's on sale for like 3€ frequently, and very much worth the price. The entire Zen Pinball menu and UI is pretty atrocious, but you can turn most of the annoying elements off thankfully.

You have awful taste in Pinball games, OP.
Mario Pinball Land legitimately feels like a bootleg, and Prime Pinball is more of a style over substance sorta deal by the same devs.
HAL's early games are all great with Pinball Spectacular and Kirby's Pinball Land having really interesting boards that kept me coming back. I never played Jupiter's GBA Pokémon Pinball game but I was very unimpressed with how boring the GBC version was even compared to something simple like Revenge of Gator.

Hey, I'm biased as a Metroid fan but I'm going to stick up for Prime Pinball. It kicked off my re-interest in pinball games. And I like the minigames and gimmicks. I guess my thinking is, if all I wanted was good pinball I could find a pinball machine IRL, but a game like Prime Pinball does pinball + stuff that could only be done in videogames.
The Bethesda pinball games >>10522669 mentioned sound interesting for that reason.

But I'll cop to the Mario Pinball Land being pretty bad. I only played it because I want more games to scratch the itch Prime Pinball gave me. I don't think I'll revisit it.
But don't call my taste bad yet: I made this thread partly to find out about pinball games people like.
I have a sizable list of games to try out tonight.

I actually really dig Mario Pinball Land's weird collectathon structure, just wishing another game could have ripped it off to execute it better.
I was in a grumpy mood from work when I posted that but I booted it up a half hour ago on a whim and Prime Pinball is actually a lot more fun than I remember :]
I also second all the other Crush pinball titles on PC Engine, those are good recommendations.

I got it for free from the Epic Store and sank a dozen hours into it because I am low test :[

The trick is to never admit to anything like that, hahaha, you say "No fuk u >:)
Demon's Crush has been posted itt and Demon's Tilt looks like a modern homage to that kind of thing, but man ... newer "Satan/Demon/Metal" inspired stuff just never actually seems to have bite like the old stuff. Yaknowhatimean?

These are far better than the endless Marvel tables FX churns out but I find them pretty bland. I came back to the Skyrim one a few times because the RPG mechanics are neat. Not a bad pick overall. I suppose I should give them extra credit for the nice dot-matrix style graphics and animations they did.

Its a shame companies stopped making pinball versions of games since zelda or splatoon will never get a real life table

Tried a bunch of pinball games last night.

>Super Robot Pinball
very charming. Decent physics. Not a lot of gimmicks, but you do enter into bossfights under certain conditions. The GBC chip sound effects were a little hard on the ears, but I'll be going back to it.
>Sonic Pinball Party
I was disappointed by Sonic Spinball. I'll probably go back to Spinball eventually, but Sonic Pinball Party seems a lot more fun. There seem to be only two, maybe three tables, but they have a lot of alternate skins. Great physics. Great sprite art. Great music. There's an arcade mode, an adventure mode, and a Chao Garden minigame. Definitely will be spending some time with that one to try and see everything it has to offer.
>Pokemon Pinball (the first game)
More charming than Pokemon Pinball - Ruby and Sapphire, but both the Pokemon pinball games are a little weak. Two tables, so not a lot of visual variety, slow ball physics, and neither really have enough gimmicks to justify playing it as a pinball adventure. At least I didn't see many of the mini games. Might go back to these just for fun, but they're weaker of the ones I've tried.
>Pinball of the Dead
Seems like there are three tables. I tried one. It's charming, but the table I tried did quite a lot to keep you from losing balls, so it didn't feel like there was a lot of tension or challenge. May go back to it later, but also felt weak.
>Pac-Man Pinball Advance
This game frontloads you with cutscenes for its story/adventure mode, and it didn't click with me. The music and sound effects also seemed strange. Weaker game. A shame because it had decent sprite art.
>Kirby's Pinball Land
Very solid. I like the mechanic of a reflex-based mini game to save a lost ball: keeps you playing, but there's good tension. My only issue with it is, like with Super Robot Pinball, the GB sound chip and black and white graphics aren't as easy on the eyes and ears as some of the others, but it's one of the better games.

My favorite virtual pin ever. I've only ever "beaten" it once out of 200 attempts. I was sweating bullets at the end and almost choked too.

>>10524221
Skyrim is easily the most ambitious table zen ever made. I got such a great score one time I was just "in the zone" one day and every shot was hitting and everything just went rifght. ill never EVER come close to beating it again so I never played it since LOL.

Zen got bought by Embracer the mega corporation and so their table output has been absolutely insane but it seems like it's quantity over quality because pretty much every new table is just okay at best. They put out 11 new tables alone in the past 2 weeks.
