Correct me if I'm wrong, because apparently I'm to Dumb to play Doom, or too Rekt to play REKKR.

The easiest way is to simply buy Steam/GOG version of REKKR since the free version on idgames is from '18 and missing two new episodes: SL expansion episode and new VR episode added this January, also some minor fixes as well.
Also commercial version is lacking original bonus E4, one way to play it is a free version from idgames. The other is REKBONUS patch for commercial version, but it has some scary stuff in description like
>Partial support for VR-3KKR (E6) through UMAPINFO! Playable, but definitely not completable, so prepare to idclip
which I absolutely don't understand since the basic commercial version w/o any patches should play VR episode just fine, no?

I'm going to be honest, I am finding Sigil II to be fairly underwhelming. The maps need more space and shotgunning this many Barons and Cacos is wearing thin. The Cyber in each map feels very forced (doubly weird as I felt the one in the first map was handled well) and they are just sort of "there".

Easiest way to to get the commercial version and slap in the rekbonus patch by brightentayle.
The Bonus episode was originally to fill out the last episode slot from UDoom, and VR-3KKR was for kicks.
The bonus wasn't originally in the SL release because I wanted it all to be plot related. But then I did vrekkr anyway so I dunno.
Anyway... Buy the wooden box copy when I release it. Only 10 will be made. 2 new episodes only for eternity engine.

Open the wad you intend to release and the resource pack you were using
Copy the following lumps from resource pack, if applicable:
Everything between P_START or P_END (Sometimes it's PP for some reason)
Everything between F_START and F_END (Sometimes FF)
PNAMES
TEXTURE1
TEXTURE2

Use maintenance menu to delete unused flats, textures and patches, in this order. Preferably backup before starting. The first two will produce a list with checkboxes, go through it and uncheck animation frames and switch counterparts (You may use different frames of animated textures in your map to make them no unused)

It really shouldn't be hard to automatically detect animation sequences but apparently it is.

There's little reason not to and equally little reason to, probably only real reason that you like Doom 2 textures better or don't want dynamic intermission screen. I would still use Ultimate Doom to not give impression that there will be SSG.
>- How do I avoid all the hard coded shit? The map with the barons in the original works with some death triggers or something
If you don't want this to happen, just don't have sectors with tag 666. Except for E2M8 and E3M8 which actually end on specific boss death.

Yes, that's obvious in hindsight. In 1997, though? Between hardware acceleration and FMVs, the perception was that games were finally breaking free of the hard pixel edges that they'd been inseparably associated with since the 70s. Consider the people going nuts over ray tracing now, even though it hasn't been put to much practical use yet and importing it into old games mostly just looks bad and murders performance. Graf falls into the equivalent to that crowd 25 years ago.

Crispy and GZDoom is the way imo. But the Unity port got fixed so that's fine too if you want to sink hours on your steam account. One small problem is that the game's framerate must be adjusted to your monitor refreshrate and vsync must be turned on or off depends if the framerate issue come up, so if you have idk a 60hz monitor then the game must be set to 60 fps or else it will be choppy. I've been playing Strife and I think the game's problem is that other than the Assault Rifle everything else kinda sucks for the main gameplay loop. You have 4 different guns capable of damaging you (or always damages you in the Sigil's case). Rocket isn't fast enough or accurate enough. Also useless for ceiling spiders and the flying robots I wish it was more accurate against. Doesn't even feel like it does enough damage either. Flamethrower is too close range for all the hitscan enemies in the game. Grenade launcher is again too close range - it's decent at dealing with mechs around the corner but at range you want to hope it's in a good position to be shot with a rocket or you otherwise rifle it down.

I haven't gotten the last gun yet but I think it's a plasma rifle type.

I finished it last night and every single level has problems. E6M7 is the biggest offender (Cacodemons and Lost Souls flying up to infinite height every 10 seconds to get over walls along with huge open areas for Caco's to get hit-punched back into infinity). Not to mention it makes the third map in a row that a Cyberdemon can cheese you because of teleport delay near them. It is clear that Romero doesn't really pay attention to map philosophy from others as these types of problems have long since been figured out in design.

The final battle with the Cybers and the Mastermind would be fine but they have lowering floors for some reason? I think the intention was that it prevents them all from shooting you at the same time, but all it really does is prevent you from having them properly infight (or if you do, it takes ages for one of them to die since most of their attacks now miss each other).

What a clusterfuck. I said earlier this was a 6 to 7 out of 10 WAD but I'm lowering it to a 4 after the last two levels.

Meanwhile I'm only 4 levels into Eviternity II on UV and its fucking awesome. Romero's designs and philosophy are outdated. Sure it was neat to play a WAD by an original creator on the 30th anniversary, but that is all Sigil II is good for.

The good thing about Sigil is that retards like you and your trannie friends on Doomworld are moaning about it while don't get the whole concept of difficulty settings.

These feminine faggots think they are masculine only if they play on UVMax/pistolstart, while Romero's concept is that HMP/Continuous is a comfy play for beginners and for blind playthrough, then you can opt to UV/Cont or HMP/Pistol for second play and doing UV/Pistol for the ultimate challenge.

If you can't understand this concept, it's your problem only.

Not that levels are not without some flaws (rocket jump secret WTF), but comparing it to the tedious, repetitive, overrated window shopping called Eviturdnity is simply an insult to Sigil's masterful craftsmanship.

They're not dungeon crawlers in any sense. Have you even played them, or any dungeon crawlers to reference them against, for that matter? Hovertank 3D is like a prototype Descent - you're there to shoot monsters and rescue hostages, and then you have to race for the exit on a time limit at the end of the level, and Catacomb 3D is much closer to Wolfenstein than it is to Ultima Underworld. There's no puzzle solving or RPG mechanics to be found in either game. They're straight action games. First person action games. First person action games where your primary means of interaction is shooting things. First person shooters, some would say.

You can make the spawns vary depending on skill setting as well: The ambush after the rocket launcher in Plutonia's first map will be shotgunners, demons, or revenants based on difficulty.
The easiest difficulty is also the only one where the player takes half damage. Damage received is otherwise the same across all skill settings.

The only thing he claims Romero has wrong in the end is that Sandy did make a an E1M1 that ended up being unused. Also said this could've been due to some miscommunication as id wasn't great in that department. It's well known that they barely had design docs, so their task were probably similarly a mess.

The map that ended up being E2M7 was originally designed to be E1M1. I guess there is the E1M1 in the 0.5 alpha that went completely unused?

>> No.10503929

His E2M7 was his first map. His claim is that he made an E1M1 because the game didn't have one at that point(because Romero always saves the first level for last), and that he made one to fill that gap without knowing one would be coming.

No idea about "random virtue signaling" since I don't follow the guy, but I've been getting more and more impression of this "fake nostalgia" where person or company interacts with it more as an marketing asset than something passionate. From Romero doing DOOM trivia for saving his own relevancy in the space to hoarding giveaways from nu-Apogee to farm followers on Twitter, all that shit just doesn't feel sincere. It's probably not that big of a deal, but I find Sigil 2's title screen very comical due to this visible link at the bottom that robs me the wrong way.
I would say that it's just a natural revolution of things like Intellevision Amico and other shady projects surrounding older brands that were bought by whoever. This time it's just people who have some moral/factual ground to do so. Ironically enough, the Unreal thing made me respect Tim Sweeney more. Also I thought linedefs can't block your movement unless it has this "Impassable" flag.
Or is it because they are too close and when I press "use" the first linefed "eats" that action an it's not getting to the second linedef?

They've both said they are or at least were friends. But the distance of the Internet makes people do/say shitty things. Romero could've PM'd Sandy and asked if he was interested in running his recollections past him first. But that wouldn't garner likes.
Sandy has more recent said that Romero is his friend, and hopefully Romero hasn't let political/generational/physical distance harden his heart to that.

How should I optimize rendering for GZdoom? I have a gtx660 which is kind of old, and runs best in hardware rendering, while software gets too few frames. For both hardware and software I turn off texture filtering, but I should I turn it on for more modern maps?
