Thread to contain all the OoT autism in one single place instead of having it split in several threads at all times. Discuss your favorite game here.

>> No.10484474

Just a reminder that most OoT threads are made by a seething Nintendo hater who has OoT live rent free in his head because of its acclaim. He somehow can't just accept that it was a great game and move on with his life

Considering it not only has mecha anime but also tokusatsu/kaiju/sentai? Yes I think there's a lot to discuss, yet still it's 75% Gundam.

Honestly probably a looooot more, and again, there's also tokusatsu, sentai...
/vr/ isn't 75% Zelda either, if it takes up 20% of the catalog that's already a lot. Seriously, go and count how many Gundam threads are on /m/, it's pretty funny.

Currently replaying the n64 zelda games, finished OOT last week. I want to ask why is the OOT lore so much more interesting than other zelda games? Like I find myself thinking about stuff like the origins of the shadow temple, the relationship of the shiekah and hyrule, the war during links birth (who was in the war who was fighting) how the forest temple is this abandoned mansion with a courtyard and paintings. Even after playing this game countless times over the years it always gets my mind jogging with these random lore details, maybe its because theres a lack of detail or something.

OoT was faithfully translated for the most part. The other Zeldas, including shit ones like Skyward Sword, have equally deep lore. It's just that Treehouse are a legion of con artists. The trolls who say the timeline doesn't make sense are all cringe English dub anime watchers. But it highlights a big problem in the community in that you can't extricate the amount of lore that *does* make sense from the stuff that Treehouse just didn't translate or, worse, translated wrong on purpose.

the timeline has always been bullshit. while a few games are close enough together to be direct sequels or exist in such a way that a "future generation" has references/legends of the past one, the rest are always so far removed from each other that they basically stand alone. places, peoples, and dimensions are introduced and made intricately integral to existence, and then never mentioned or spoken of again, as well as conveniently unknown in their entirety in previous entries.

nintendo has always operated under the idea that connecting them is simply a neat idea and totally explained by "well its just cycles and rebirth, man". they do not put in the effort to flesh out and account for actual detail and world building. like, there is literally LESS effort than zanzibart shit in souls games. the real cringe are the turbo autists that think the "timeline" matters at all, least of all to nintendo, who genuinely dont give a fuck. in a recent interview after totk (maybe botw?) one of the devs was asked about how it fits into the timeline and how strict they are in development, and he said something to the effect of "sometimes, i wish we never came up with or published that idea. its too restrictive. we try to make sure we dont do anything too drastic that it retcons other games or doesnt fit in somewhere, but its not very important to the process". the "lore" is intentionally vague and actually extremely shallow because the "depth" doesnt even really exist. player questions like "whats the deal with this temple?" and "what sides fought in this war?" are literally no different than "what do they eat?" and "what was his tax policy?" because those answers dont exist and arent important.

the timeline is arbitrary and most zelda games completely stand alone. even the ones that are directly connected can be considered as a "stand alone segment" of time, and have literally no bearing on anything else before or after.

Somebody help. I tried googling but got nothing. Can someone explain the time loop mistake they made in the spirit temple? I remember reading about it years ago and thought "damn what an oversight" but can't find anything about it.

Something about how something happens in the future but you haven't done it as a kid yet or something. (And not talking about how you learn the song of storms -- it's something to do with the spirit temple)

Ocarina is the only game I can still play. So I think it's more than nostalgia. Other childhood games don't appeal to me anymore or other layer games outdated i played and enjoyed. If im just mindlessly in a mood to play a game its this.. No game as felt like such an adventure. I can boot up OoT any time and just run around the field or fish. Or have a blast just playing through again.
Its amazing and makes me feel young again. It's like the closest games have come to some German epic.

Nah dude, I get what he means. Obviously it's somewhat figurative, but the level of satisfaction/nuance that OoT is capable of giving you is just unlike anything else. It's like, other games can certainly be enjoyable to a good degree, but compared to OoT there this certain hollowness to everything. It's just a uniquely good game.

>> No.10492207

and that is literally JUST the pedestal of nostalgia. i guarantee you that you can find fans of other games that will say the same thing about their favorite games. you people are laughably devoid of self awareness.

its also worth noting that its always you people that complain the hardest with every new zelda game. you arent zelda fans, you're oot fans. hell, you're not even really "fans", you're zealots.

>i guarantee you that you can find fans of other games that will say the same thing about their favorite games

I don't see this to anywhere near the same degree though. It's just so well recognized that OoT is special, and not in a merely "this is popular so of course it must be good" way. Like, if you've really experienced it to its fullest you'll know what I'm talking about, and many people in this thread clearly do, but it really is capable of giving you a phenomenal kind of experience that I don't actually see any reason to believe has any equivalent in any other game (save for perhaps parts of MM and a small handful of other games, but in each case the game in question still doesn't achieve the same 'total mastery' OoT does in a way that permeates every aspect of the game to close to the same degree).

It's like, I've played the game, and I know what I experienced playing it, and it's the kind of thing where I seriously doubt that people who have other games that aren't OoT as their favorite really experienced something on the same level, because if that was the case I'd expect to see people talking about them with the same kind of reverent awe to similar degrees, and I really just don't.

Like the fact that you'd react with the kind of skepticism you are is really enough to prove my point, if you really enjoyed any game as much as people here with do OoT then you'd completely understand why people have this particular kind of reaction to it, and sympathize with that, and get why critics singled it out as "the game people would still be talking about decades from now" out of everything on release (keeping in mind this was fucking 1998 of all years).

i've seen this with plenty of other games. chrono trigger, ff7, half life (not sure if 1 or 2 matters for that), metal gear, deus ex, sonic adventure, and more.

you might ask yourself, "well then why dont i see more of it? why arent these games as highly rated and regarded?" and the answer is because its literally just nostalgia. just because the nostalgia hits you harder for this one thing doesnt mean its not nostalgia. just because they got hit just as hard from something else doesnt mean its not nostalgia. people obsess and fixate on all sorts of things. its still just nostalgia at the end of the day.

"its just so perfect and special" is just confirmation bias and cope. plenty of people will agree its a great game while still recognizing that the pedestal you're putting it on is pretty disingenuous and cringe. we're all happy for you that you had a great time and all, but come on dude, just be honest with yourself.

actually, its kind of funny that you chose the phrase "bad faith", because it is a lot like a religious argument, where somebody is saying "no, my religion is the ONE TRUE GOD. those other religious experiences arent the same or valid. and i can prove it, because my religion is the real one, because i felt it so". you completely lack self awareness or honesty.
