I will never not be mad about bottles being killed off, for no reason, and then being replaced with a less charisma void jarhead that serves the exact same gameplay purpose.
Bonus points-Gruntilda no longer rhyming.

I'm 100% with you. It felt like something weird happened to Rare that made them cynical faggots in the 2000s (besides worse game designers)

Dropped 2 like an hour in because I want to keep 1 in good memory

I don't know about Tooie specifically but some important people left Rare to found Free Radical during Perfect Dark's development in late 98 - early 99

The more i think on it the more the small changes in tooie add up to really hurt the overall product.
The way they changed most collectables like eggs/notes to just these bulk 'nests'.
It takes away the whole concept of bread-crumbing the player around and gently guiding them on where to go. It just seems Rare were like 'ahh cbf placing 100 individual notes, just plop down a few nests here and there and tick that box and move on'.
And changing Mumbo's role and giving it to Humba Wumba, like why? Why couldn't Mumbo stay in his normal role and SHE is the new character, with new abilities, who you can control to do the magic shit?
And who played BK and thought 'this game is great, except i really wish i could play as Banjo WITHOUT Kazooie (and vice versa)? Who asked for the iconic duo, literally the NAME OF THE GAME, to be broken up in certain sections and played seperately while the other waits around like a bitch? The core theme is they are stronger together-seperately Banjo is slow and cumbersome and Kazooie is just weak.
I think Tooie, for me, is really a death by a thousand cuts-Rare made alot of small tweaks/changes to the overall formula and almost everyone is a step backward.
It would make more sense if it was a new studio that was given the banjo licence and didn't understand why the first was so universally loved and but it was made by the same people. It's utterly baffling how they got so much wrong after getting it so right the first time round.

Literally feature creep
>Feature creep is the excessive ongoing expansion or addition of new features in a product, especially in computer software, video games and consumer and business electronics. These extra features go beyond the basic function of the product and can result in software bloat and over-complication, rather than simple design.
>Feature creep may arise from the desire to provide the consumer with a more useful or desirable product in order to increase sales or distribution. Once a product does everything that it is designed to do, the manufacturer may add functions some users might consider unneeded (sometimes at the cost of efficiency) or continue with the original version (at the cost of a perceived lack of improvement).
TL;DR Rare felt like they needed to change shit and add features or else people wouldn't buy the game
