Bruh it has a Snapdragon 720G. It's not going to knock the sock off any flagship phone, but it's a hefty chip with a good amount of power behind it. I’m honestly SUPER mixed on it compared to my RP2S. For GBC, the screen size is better, obviously, and the RGB30ms colors seems a lot more vibrant. But when I switch to a GBA game, for some reason it flips the other way around, and the RP2S has the better colors, while the RGB30 looks washed out. It’s honestly kinda baffling.

Also, mine freezes mid-gameplay once in a while and forces me to reset the console, which is my biggest problem with. Is this because I’m still using the stock OS card?

You are fixing the physical issues of the console one by one. There was some publication criticizing the dpad on the basis of it being too small. I think that. instead of putting tape on the buttons themselves, it would probably work right if you put them under the dpad's butt, but I don't know how It looks yet. From your picture it looks like the tape is barely doing anything, is not thick enough to raise the dpad.
Hopefully you can think of something to fix the L2/R2.

Got shaders or color correction on the core turned on? I assume you changed the color temperature on the RP2S, doesn't look piss warm enough on that pic.

They’re both using the dot.glslp shader. I set the RP2S to increased contrast, but that was just to counteract the washed-out look that GBC had, and it STILL looked worse.
>Why are you on stock card?
I don’t have any spare SD cards right now. I just updated to whatever the latest version is, but honestly, the battery life is the least of my problems right now, though that’s also worse compared to the RP2S. And that’s not even mentioning the sleep mode.

Odd things have been happening. Yesterday I tried to capture footage from my Retroid Pocket 2S using a cheap chinkshit capture card that I have. That capture card can normally capture sound through its HDMI port, but it doesn't work work with RP2S for some reason (even though sound through HDMI or DisplayPort works when connected directly to my monitor). There's also a 3.5mm jack on it, ostensibly meant for microphone input. So I've been using that 3.5mm jack by connecting it to the 3.5mm jack on my RP2S with a male-to-male cable to record in-game audio. It worked well with OBS once I configured the appropriate settings in PulseMixer (I use Linux), but yesterday it just stopped. No sound at all, not even the minute interference that was always there even when there was no sound playing on the RP2S at all. So I tried reconnecting the audio cable, the HDMI cable, the USB cable and so on to the capture card a few times. Then I got sound working, but no video signal. Then I tried connecting my RP2S to my monitor through an HDMI to DVI cable. I got no signal there either, so I surmised that either the microHDMI port on my RP2S or the microHDMI adapter that I use with it must be broken, because that same HDMI to DVI cable worked with other devices. But then I tried that same HDMI to DVI cable again today, and it started working with RP2S again. And now the video capture also works on my capture card, but THE SOUND IS BROKEN AGAIN! So I'm back to exactly where I started.

Maybe I should get a good quality Elgato capture card instead to avoid dealing with this bullshit. I actually have enough CeX credit to buy it without spending any real money. Does anyone here know if Elgato HD60S+ can capture weird resolutions like 720x480@60Hz that RP2S outputs well?

I'm afraid that the 4:3 window in the middle is what will burn in.

>> No.10464191

>>10464136
It won't. Burn is from elements that are constantly on screen. A constantly changing 4:3 image is nothing to worry about. A bigger worry would be if you always have the Steam Deck status bar on screen showing you your FPS and TDP and other info. Not sure if its a good idea keeping that constantly up on the OLED like people did on their regular Decks.

>> No.10464208

>>10464191
Even in that situation, you would probably have to have that information displayed on your OLED deck 24/7 for like a year straight to experience burn-in. And in that situation it'd probably come from displaying the same image/game on nonstop during that time.

And you're starting to figure out the entire reason why achievements even exist. It's literally just to track how much of a video game is actually being played by the customers. If literally nobody is unlocking the multiplayer achievements in a new release, chances are if it gets a sequel it will have the multiplayer removed entirely. It's why Call of Duty kept getting shorter and shittier campaigns, Rock Band got easier with less tracks each release, etc.

Apart from needing to open up the device and physically cut the buttons to make them tolerable, only to end up with buttons that are still worse than the other 3 models', and needing to replace the d-pad silicone with one from a game boy color which most non-autists would have to source individually, only to end up with a dpad that is still worse than the other 3 models'

I love the size/ergonomics of the R36S vs the other, smaller models but I don't know how people look past completely unpleasant controls. Not really. You could get Odin Lite for the same price, which has a better SoC and working 4G modem. I know that technically the Adreno GPU in Snapdragon 720G has better software compatibility than the Mali GPU in Dimensity D900, but the performance difference between those two is so big that it shouldn't really matter. D900 in Odin Lite is almost on par with Snapdragon 845 in standard Odin.

Given that this is by Ayaneo and has 7840U and 120Hz display, the price will be at least $800, probably closer to $1000. IMO buying a chinkheld like that is a huge gamble and you shouldn't do it if you can't afford another one in case it breaks. I used to have AOKZOE A1 (non-Pro model with 6800U) at one point. I bought it locally. The display started going crazy after a month. It was like the image kept scrolling very fast horizontally and the display contents were unreadable. It happened in BIOS too, so I'm 99% sure that it was a hardware issue. I opened a dispute with the seller and I told him that I refuse it to send it to China for repairs. I sent it back to him instead, he said he would to send it to China for repairs but then said that it wasn't worth the money and refunded me. I really dodged a bullet there by buying it using a website with customer protection.

Dang, I didn't realize how big those two are. I'm not sure if I really want anything that big, but it's always hard to envision it without having it directly in front of me.

Related, I think I've come to the conclusion that my main preference for what I'd like with one of these devices would be:

- Some method of streaming, as that would likely be my main use case
- Decent color options. I'm really tired of black, white, gray, and that horrid blue
- Preferably a good dpad
- Stacked triggers
- Two analog sticks

The closest to a decision I've made is on perhaps a RP3+ or RP2S, but I know the 4 might be announced soon so I want to see what that entails, alongside being unsure if the RP2S screen is too small.

The problem with Mendocino is that even though those APUs have RDNA2 graphics, the graphics core count is ridiculously low (2 or 3 I believe) so those graphics cores need to run at very high frequencies to achieve passable performance, negating all power-efficiency benefits. Mendocino wasn't really designed with energy efficiency as its main purpose, those chips were designed to have small die sizes so that AMD can shit out a lot of them fast and cheap and sell them to OEMs for cheap. It's the Athlon 30##U successor and should be evaluated as such.

I agree about the sticks. That's why I'm annoyed by all these retards who want sticks on the RG Arc. It needs a better chip for saturn, but it doesn't need sticks.

N64, Saturn, PSP, and dreamcast only had a left stick so it was only used for movement. PS1 only used the left stick for literally 99% of the entire library. Ape Escape was the only game that required sticks at all. Thing is, the stick doesn't really benefit movement that much. Just play any of the N64 games that were ported to DS, dpad is just fine for movement and the saturn dpad even more so. Thumbsticks really only benefit camera control which none of those games ever featured. Since N64, Dreamcast, PSP, and Saturn only had 2 shoulder buttons, you can just set the dpad to be the stick, and then for those very few games that would use the dpad as extra buttons like map/item, just make L1+Dpad=dpad.

Id rather have analog triggers on the Arc than a thumbstick.

So I figured I'd give it a shot and it really is a disappointment. The D-Pad isn't just small but also mash potatoe-y, the 4 buttons are so tiny you have press with the tip of your finger. They should have made this a 2 button system and it would have been great. The OS really sucks ass, no sleep mode, shitty menus, and I can't remap the controls to make it so the shoulder buttons are A/B (which would really help with 1 handed pokemon crystal, which is what I bought it for). Maybe installing funkey OS will address this. There's also no fast forward which is pretty handy in old pokemon. As it stands now I'd rather play pokemon one handed with the miyoo. They could also use a weaker chip and lower the price since there's no point in going past GBC.

Oh well. I've also got an RP3+ And a Miyoo, both of which are awesome (your shit posting about them is part of why I ignored you).

Pic is what it should have been to make a device that would be worth it just for GBC RPGs.

Please Retroid Pocket Flip 2 be the endgame for mid priced, around $150-215. But lower to be competitive.
Let it have.
>A chipset of at least rk3588+ power level
>6" screen
>6 face buttons to make other niche handhelds redundant.
>Hybrid Saturn/8- way Vita Dpad.
>A better hinge like PK x18s at least.
And you can take my money. I've been very good this year, and I'm holding back on buying any other handheld until. (Unless a Steam/Odin 2 clamshell happens) But this power level/ price might be right this time.. They may just've cracked it. Let's see if they can beat the Powkiddy ODT in this arms race.

It's called razor and blades business model. The reason OEM consoles/handhelds are cheaper than PCs of similar performance (at least they used to be, not sure how the business is today) is because the companies behind said consoles turn great profits from the licensed games optimized and sold for those systems - probably greater than what the consoles cost. That's why nintendo could make a wacky dual screen handheld - it was ballsy but the games sold for it guaranteed the company profited.
The chinks have absolutely no way to profit from games - all their users pirate games for first party consoles - if they make a dual screen chinkheld, it will be good for DS games but automatically subpar for all other systems - why would they produce something like that? It's not like they get money from DS games being sold, they have little market incentive to make a cheap dedicated DS emulator device if they can simply continue to do the two size factors(vertical and horizontal) that they do so far and let their users get the most versatile library (further argument is people still use chinkhelds for emulating DS, it looks retarded like that but it works, so all the more reason not to make such devices)
Either very few chink versions of such a device or they release something like analogue pocket - that way you end up with a hipster device probably more expensive than a used DS(or even a new one)

If you really love to play DS library (like I do) I'd suggest just buying a used DS+flashcart/CFW like I did, the ones imported from Japan seem cheaper and the firmware makes language of console obsolete.
You can also get 2ds or 3ds if that library seems interesting, I got Dsi xl for the amazing screen.
Both families (3d and original ds) can still use download play, local multi, wifi multiplayer(thanks to wiimmfi/pretendo restoring servers), even on pirated roms thanks to newest CFW versions

>That's why nintendo could make a wacky dual screen handheld - it was ballsy but the games sold for it guaranteed the company profited.
I generally agree, but DS was cheap to produce and Nintendo never sold it at a loss even though it cost less to the end consumer than PSP. It's just that money they got from hardware sales was peanuts compared to what they got from selling games for said hardware.

Maybe I should have phrased the question that way. Maybe I'm asking too much.

ehh, it's pretty much a wash with each having their own strengths and weaknesses relative to each other in this regard. For me personally, I do actually find the RP3 just a smidge more comfortable.
>better sticks and triggers, better placement of start/select buttons, home button, and most of the systems you'll want to play on it are 4:3 so less wasted screen space
Yep, + front-firing speakers, and in my opinion better face buttons as well. It's really just the screen size where the 3 leads. Obviously a bigger picture for content wider than 4:3 like Wonderswan, uncorrected Megadrive and Saturn, PSP, streaming and widescreen hacks, etc, but even for 4:3 it's a noticeable size difference in person. 3.83" vs 3.5" doesn't sounds like a big difference, but for me it was the difference between "this is a bit small but still perfectly playable" and "this is kind of a pain to play".

2S is 100% the better machine even ignoring price if you can gel with a 3.5" screen, but I unfortunately found it was JUST small enough that my eyes couldn't go back to it. I feel like even 3.75" would've been enough. That would've been able to fit within the same shell, too, just eating into the bezel a bit.

I think it comes down to preference from adolesence-built familiarity. Unless a button has some level of analog input, like PlayStation buttons did, I despise when buttons don't instantly click in. The more travel and the more soft it is, the more inaccurate and cheap it feels to me. Always fucking hated the Genesis d-pad and buttons. I think the phat og DS has the best d-pad and buttons.

I opened a 360p frame video, which on my screen measures about 7" corner to corner. It's gameplay of some new action platformer. Sure it looks ok, but I'm noticing how small that screen size is. Most of you who are complaining about the size of the deck or screens that are larger, have me wondering how small you all want these to be. I place my hands aside the image like I'm holding a horizontal device. It seems almost too small for me at least. Perhaps 6" is somewhat a compromise when I say it to be more pragmatic.

I mean the Powkiddy x18s was 5.5", are we really saying the next PS2 capable device. Especially a clamshell, should be stuck in the same gens hardware? Next level should be at least 6", It a man's size.

First, I choose ass over tits. Specifically in the dimension where chicks shit ice cream.

Second, not everyone thinks ds games look terrible on larger screens. Plus the second screen, if large enough to be useable. Can provide a VMU or you could put mmo comment there. You could be streaming if your a fag, or just browsing 4Chan while doing some light gaming on the top screen. It's the main flaw of this method, but while it looks quite off when staring at a full image like this, it's something you don't really notice all that much when you're focused and playing, which is what matters most. It's a pretty straightforward action game with a lot of unique sprites for weapons and some cool looking bosses, difficulty is kinda weird as it can go from a cakewalk to getting carnaged by some bosses.
