>nice grappling hook mechanic you've got there
>would be a shame if I loaded it down with a bunch of glitchy, unfun, nakedly sadistic horseshit
No wonder no one talks about this game, it's fucking garbage

I want to get good at this series, but it may be one of the absolute hardest out there.

>> No.10440495

It's only hard because of the random enemies and because on most gamepads it's "false verticals: the game". If there was a mod to add the r button diagonal cast from Shun it'd be easy

It's only particularly difficult if you want to speedrun it. If you just want to be competent and be able to clear all the levels, it's quite forgiving outside of a couple bullshit ones.
Here's a short video showing off some tech that will make a lot of the levels easier (and more fun!). It's Shun, but everything in this can be done in the original as well.

It's just janky garbage. The most fun grapple mechanics are still Spider-Man 2 and Zelda TP's double hookshot

People talk about it all the time, way more than the original rope platformer Bionic Commando, despite it getting a reboot. Somehow Bionic Commando is completely forgotten while this "hidden gem" is being "discovered" by a new youtuber every week

There are some factors. It’s one of those games that legit takes time to git gud at. You have to understand the physics and how they work but eventually you’ll be skipping through entire sections swinging like Spider-Man.

When you get to Shin you basically need to play the DS version as it has the best physics and all the other versions of shin have some issues. It’s a super difficult game but one of the most rewarding platformers to git gud at and it stays good all the way up to rebirth… which was mediocre at best.

I like this game. It would have been fun to combo it with some sort of weapon.

Also what is wrong with nippos, they make games and movies with women doing things that they simply aren't interested in IRL. Are they intentionally trying to make all the single raised boys trannies?

They're good games, but you need to watch random japanese youtube accounts to get a feel for higher level strats. Learning how to do certain moves is requires and is poorly explains outside of Japanese strategy guides. Start with Shun. It's the most well thought out in the series. Stuff like F56 and the harder to get to door on F27 will test how much you know about the physics.

High level play is exciting, what's great is the game does require skill this good for 100% completion, and earlier stages become fun to blitz thru. There's a few fan sites like kawasefan if the nintendo centric community on /vr/ is too abrasive.

It's field 52 in particular that made me angry enough to make this thread.
>go left, grab the gravity platform, pull it down
>get on top of it
>jump+ diagonal rope to the edge so the platform can rise a bit
This is fucking annoying because you get caught on the corner and risk getting trapped on the wrong side of the falling platform as it rises up, but whatever
>drop back on the platform when it reaches your feet, rope jump vertical to latch onto the upper ceiling
The upper ceiling is offscreen and you can barely make it with tight timing
>reel in so you're just below the ink clouds, but close enough that you can grab the ledge
This is where I got mad. The momentum from jumping to reach the ceiling with your hook makes you bounce up and down like crazy, and you can't wait for the momentum to end because the rising gravity platform hits your feet, falls again, and bounces you into the ink clouds. Because the gravity platform is narrow and ink clouds (unlike other stuns) disable your ability to cast your line, this is unavoidable death. THEN, once you're up there, you have to hook the octopus and run back onto the gravity platform, because octopuses only stun when they're falling, which I wouldn't even have fucking known without the guide. THEN you have to cast a hook on a high diagonal WHILE AVOIDING THE INFINITE DOUBLE FISH, which spawn in if you take too long to reach them. It's fucking retarded.

Super backsling ftw. But I had to use save states for the final level, I could get there reliably but wasted too many tries on the backsling or trying to climb. Gonna do it again without states.

Great physics, great moveset, great level design, overall just great gameplay. However I really don't like the bosses at all and just overall how the game is structured and how unforgiving it is.
I have a feeling people just use save states until they git gud at particular levels and then attempt a normal run.
And particularly having to deal with that timed toadpole boss constantly is just a pain in the ass.

If you haven't already, you should check out Shun. Its level design teaches you the moveset better than the original. This Japanese guy's channel has some great Sayonara and Shun tips (and also Fresh, but we don't talk aboit Fresh).
