I always find it weird when people say shit like "you never need to buy items, the game gives you everything you need". Likely ties into real world mindset (or in the case of kids playing OoT, the behavior they observed in their parents, and/or how they were being raised). Some people simply refuse to pay for anything they can do/make/find themselves, either due to being tight or viewing paying somebody as the lazy way out. It doesn't have to make sense, and sometimes paying money is ultimately the cheaper solution when you account for time investment and potential for fuckups, but it's just how it is - I know I'm this way in games, if there's a way to specifically "earn" a particular item I'm definitely going to take that route as opposed to buying it.
