someone please give me a Retroarch CRT shader that
>will run on my sad little 1030
>is 4K
>lets me see the RGBs
>displays the waterfalls in Sonic right
>has curvature
>has scanlines

i am obviously stupid and definitely tired and i just want my games to look correct, thanks

CRT Royale, usually

I just use crt-yo6-kv-m14208b-fast though since I use lower end Android hardware

You gotta use one that emulates a composite connection, which is always what anyone should use because composite is king.

Guest-Advanced-NTSC is what you want. Not sure how well it runs at 4K, though.

>has curvature
Curvature in CRTs was used to counter the inner curvature of the image being projected, resulting in a perfectly flat display. As technology improved, the need for this workaround vanished. There's no reason to simulate that in a shader, it'll only fuck everything up.

>CTRL F "CRT"
>Only an emulation thread
Don't mention the term "CRT" in emulation threads please, you're beneath us.

if you can see curvature on a crt from on center you're about 100x too close. The inverse distortion on flat screen crts is far, far more noticeable.

Your pic in OP wouldn't display the Sonic waterfalls "right". You can't have SCART-like sharpness and composite-like blending all at the same time, not even in real hardware. Choose sharpness or choose blending/blurriness.

As for shaders, you can use gdapt in conjunction with a sharp shader to blend pixels and get transparent waterfalls and remove dithering, but it will mangle small text, so use sparingly depending on the game.

My ultimate advice, don't get so hung up in accuracy, specially when the CRT world is full of differences between the setup. Pick up and configure the shader that looks good for you and stop caring about what randos think. The way shaders look depend heavily on your screen anyway, so what it might look good for some will look horrid for others. You need to test, compare and see what works for your monitor.

As for shaders, you can use gdapt in conjunction with a sharp shader to blend pixels, get transparent waterfalls and remove dithering, but it will mangle small/fine text, so use sparingly depending on the game.

My ultimate advice, don't get so hung up in accuracy, specially when the CRT world is full of differences between several setups. Pick up and configure the shader that looks good for you and stop caring about what randos think. Always CRT guest. Has a lot of options but you can usually leave it as it is
