Is it worth insuring it? How do you guys protect your shit. I'm hitting the point where I'm like damn, if all of my shit got destroyed I'd be pretty pissed. Picked up the vidya hobby like 3 years ago, so things have accumulated.

I'm in the u.s. could be good to go into more specifics about what type of insurance, and what company.

Don't live in floodplains, coastal buttsex regions, rooms that can easily be flooded, and houses made of tinder. Don't live near crack dens, homeless shelters, or other high crime areas.
Have a trusted friend or neighbor watch your house for bad shit happening to your house when you travel, like smoke or the front door being open or the roof or sidewalk being wet despite no rain.
Make sure to check your insurance sub-limits, and have documentation like receipts and pictures for your shit. Ask your company ahead of time what they need for you to get paid in case of damage.
Unplug shit when you aren't using it, and look into surge protectors and lightning protection. Keep things at least a few inches off the ground.
Appreciate things while you have them and let go of your attachments to worldly possessions.

I think I can put it best as I'd like to have these exact items or a replacement for the rest of my life, since things go wrong, insurance is the only way to know that. If I loose it all I'm not going to rebuild I'm just going to call it quits.

My collection is worth a little over 6k and I don't have it insured. I figure that if I somehow lose it all I'll just stick to emulation. Make a spreadsheet of all your shit and you'll be fine. Because at the end of the day, it's only pieces of entertainment.

Mine is worth almost 10k but I'm not scared because I know thieves would rather get a Nintendo Switch off my collection (which can be easily replaced) instead of peepeepoopoo console which is worth a lot more. People don't know shit about these kind of prices here. And sadly neither does the person who is gonna get my shit once I'm dead. I'd have to instruct them on the prices and such but I'm sure I'd be wasting my time with that.

You can get personal property insurance and/or renters insurance to cover these and the policy shouldn't cost that much, but I would be concerned that $1,000 might not be that much above the deductible depending on the policy. I would check to see if you can bundle personal property insurance with your homeowner or car insurance. For a few years I had some personal property insurance with USAA that was practically free because it was bundled with other insurance I had.

The bigger issue is that your finances don't sound great if this is a concern. You should have enough of an emergency fund and income where losing $1k of video games isn't something you have to insure against. I would work on improving your personal finances before worrying about your collection.

Idk if it makes sense to insure the collection specifically, but renters insurance is kinda underrated imo.

It just ties into my specific interest, so it's value to me is disproportionate likely, holy fuck I must be a wreck.
