World and alttp are massive drops in qualtiy from Mario 3, Zelda 1 and 2. Yoshis Island has great music and uses the special fx chip like no other which makes people believe its a masterpiece but its ruined by its slower gameplay, egg collecting, kiddy aesthetic and the crying baby. I agree with all of this, but there's just one big issue with the game: it's slow. The levels are long, there's a lot of stuff to collect in each one, and there's a bit too many of them. I feel like if the levels got a bit smaller and more packed with stuff, it'd be great. otherwise, it's still good for relaxed long playthroughs, but I feel like I can't play it for longer than an hour, it just gets tedious.
and maybe one smaller issue is that the castles are unexpectendly boring. regular levels are better in just about everything.

cv4 is definitely better, dkc moves fast but the levels blend together into an uninteresting blur and the level geometry is all kinds of soft and imprecise. this one I've replayed countless times. personally I love it, though I can see why someone wouldn't. it's snappy and fast, the whole pleasure is in the controls. otherwise it may seem "basic", it's pure down to basics action and not a collecting / exploring game.

Yoshis Island is the tits. I grew up with the GBA version though so I like the little sound effects he makes, its so cool.

mmx is fine and the best of the 3, it's got the most consistent difficulty and solid levels, although they're very short compared to cv4 which has better level design overall. mmx is a little premature with some of the powers you get but at least they all seem to be useful except kuwangers. the charged shot variants of some are just broken to the point it basically skips entire sections with no real loss. later games would make this take half or all of your energy for that weapon.

what I mean is that the game can feel rather monotonous. you often run around the same parts a lot clearing out stuff trying to get 100%. and if you don't go for 100%, it gets way less interesting.
but there's time and place for games like these. this game serves great as a chillout / relaxing playthrough. I generally prefer a bit harder / faster games, but not all people do, and everyone needs a break sometimes. that's when Yoshi's Island fits just right.
if you want more specific examples—in particular the parts with transformations can take forever if you collect everything, because you return to the start when the timer runs out. the submarine in particular sucks. clearing those soft walls with eggs looking for secrets also takes long. sometimes there are long poles that you need to ground pound to see if there's a red coin. it's all stuff like this and more that makes Yoshi's Island simply a slow game, more akin to Wario Land series than anything. it's designed to slowly solve puzzles and collect everything in the level.

It's probably become one of my favourite games ever, easily in my top 15 perhaps even top 10. The sad thing is I don't even speak Japanese, I played the remake first and then I used retroarch AI translation tool + the FAQ on gamefaqs for some item/gear names and description.

JRPGs are obvious, but it had an even bigger and excellent 2D action library where anyone will find something: from SMW and DKC1-3, to MMX1-3 and Super Metroid, to Dracula X and Super G'n'G, to Contra 3 and Castlevania 4, to Pocky and Rocky, goof Troop and Zombies Ate My Neighbors, to Umihara Kawase and to Front Mission Gun Hazard and Cybernator, and way, way more to count. it had fighters, top down shooters, shmups, puzzles, TRPGs, racing, and way more.
