If we're talking only about the ones you've posted, I'd for with DualSense for all 2D titles and 1st person 3D titles, and XBOX for 3rd person 3D titles. If we're talking in general, I use an M30 by 8BitDo, love a 6 button layout and a SEGA styled D-Pad.

P.S. A black DualSense is so sleek and I love it. I hated how it looked at first with the white/black main version, but this one won me over.

I’ve got a million different controllers and I prefer the 8BitDo Pro 2, although it’s far from perfect too. Anyways, I play more and more retro games with an arcade stick or just a keyboard.

so i'm planning on getting a dualsense and running retroarch through steam. as i understand it steam should just pick it right up, is that correct? should any bluetooth dongle work, or is there one that's ideal?

DualShock 3 basically covers everything for gamepad inputs (and is also a well made controller at least in the right version) if you absolutely have to use one controller for as many systems as possible. On paper it doesn't have the most straightforward compatibility for standard input protocols but it's pretty well supported otherwise.

It feels good in the hand, those big buttons feel like you're holding an arcade stick in your hand, I also enjoy using the "claw" method that makes it feel even more like an arcade stick when needed, though in a very compact size, also these are the controllers that often have the SEGA D-Pad with 8 directions and all thanks to the disk shape. I get what you mean, but they're often good to hold.

I guess the point is to be the "perfect" controller, since the Saturn controller is so beloved, all you need is analog sticks and now it's for 3D too, it's meant to be a controller for all uses. I think they messed up by going for small analog sticks, but it probably feels good to use anyways, I'll need to actually hold one to find out though, anyways it looks like a perfect controller for all uses to me.

But the idea of a perfect controller is retarded. No tool is perfect for every job. You can either have ergonomic analog stick placement or ergonomic dpad placement. I would rather have different controllers for different games than a jack of all trades master of none one.

What are some good symmetrical stick 3rd party controllers? I've been waiting for one to release that has all the fancy shit that asymmetrical designs tend to get, but none ever pop up and it's really disappointing. I got the Flydigi Vader 3 Pro and it's essentially perfect in every way for me, but I'd like a Symmetrical design for PS games since it just feels wrong to play things like Ape Escape or Katamari with Asymmetrical.

What are some good places to find good DS3 controllers? Failing that, I'd be happy with good DS/DS2 but I'm weary of finding anything good on Amazon or eBay. I'd like to just use first party stuff, but they're all so old that I don't know if the quality will ever match up. Currently using pic related because I'm retarded and broke my right thumb.
I don't play any fighting games except Vampire Savior 2 but I'm loving this for platformers and shmups. Mine was modded by the previous seller with a circlegate JLF and Sanwa buttons.

I have a PowerA version of a 360 controller and I can't complain at all for £20. Taken everything I've thrown at it. Only complaint is that there are two extra triggers on the back that don't seem to actually map to anything, unless I've missed something obvious.

Unrelated but why can't I into dpads? I feel like they'd offer more precise control in retro games but I can't work out how to use them, switching directions is always slower and means pressing down on a button instead of just flicking a stick. My hands always end up hurting as a consequence. I grew up playing on a PS1 (no DualShock) and a Nintendo DS and I don't remember having any problems back then. Maybe my hands have grown too much to keep playing with children's toys.

Does anyone know if the Genesis version of he M30 (as in actual console) has the possibility of being USB-C instead of micro usb? I don't want the bluetooth one and I want one with USB-C and having a Genesis dongle is a nice plus.

I guess this is the appropriate thread to ask this question. Does anyone have this controller for the PlayStation 2? It's the Logitech Cordless Action Controller. I own one and I bought a replacement dongle off of ebay not too long ago. It seems there is common problem where one of the capacitors inside dies and makes the whole controller useless. The dongle goes into pairing mode permanently (green flashing light) and prevents the controller from ever syncing again. Am I just fucked? Seems like you're playing the lottery trying to find a replacement dongle and even if you do get lucky and find one, it will eventually fail over time.

Feels great in the hands, nice clicky buttons, and an excellent d-pad. Definitely slept on.

DualShock 4 works for pretty much everything for me, most comfortable Sony controller ever made, though I haven't given DualSense much time to take that spot, maybe when I buy one.

Do NOT buy that shit. Just don't. Those older 8bitdo controllers have completely shit D-pads. I ended up giving mine away because of all the accidental diagonals. If you're going to have to hunt for a Snes controller, then at least get one of those Nintendo switch online ones, or an old-ass Snes controller and an adapter. If you want further proof, Lon.tv on youtube made a pretty good review of these controllers and he showcases the shit diagonals. You have dodged a bullet.
