I've been doing it, OP. The main point of frustration for me is that I've never had to deal with COLOR MATCHING before and half my covers printed out, while high quality, in this sort of red-orange that doesn't match the searing high-satuation red you actually see on SNES cases and the nintendo logo

That was when I had them printed at FedEx Office, which felt like it was actually cheaper inkwise than printing them out at home. I can do it at home, but...

Don't forget about the price for a printer and ink. Cheapest decent printers would be an Epson Expression XP-410 or an HP Deskjet 3510 or 4500, all about $69-$79 on sale. Picture quality would be better on the Epson, but the HP will come with full-sized cartridges in the box.

If money isn't an issue, get an HP Officejet 8600 Pro. $149 and you're good for about a 1000 pages out of the box.

That video game collection was probably worth thousands of dollars and to just say "Yeah lets spend thousands on a collection that not only took money but blood, sweat and tears, and then as soon as it floods lets just leave it all behind and let it ruin in muddy, contaminated water because pictures of scooter and a 600 dollar tv is worth more..

I used this site when making cases for some burned Dreamcast games. I really like them. I'd like to do the same for all my loose-cartridge games (read: every cartridge game I own) but the cost of 75 or so of those universal cases would be really prohibitive, I imagine. The way I have all my games displayed isn't really spectacular anyway, and I like collecting videogames more than displaying them, but it's still a project I want to do. Just not one to do right now.

I saw some eBay listings, but I noticed a lot of them were European cases. While I think the clear cases are prettier and leave for more creativity (inside artwork) they won't work if you're in the States very well. Reason is the thickness of the European cases. A lot of the Cover Project and VGBoxart defaults are for the US game cases, which are slightly thinner.

That, and if you're making cases for other cartridges (Game Boy/Color, Gear), the inside of the European layout looks slightly different, too.

Still, OP's pic looks like the guy got some American box art ("T" for teen), so I'm curious as to where he got the clear cases.

The only place I've seen after a day's research for American-looking clear cases is:
http://www.cdsmedia.co.uk/Gaming/Nintendo_DS_Replacement_Game_Case_Clear.aspx

But the listing doesn't give the exact dimensions, and they don't take PayPal.

Anyone can help on the clear cases for US carts?

So I figured out my template, I'm not going to bother with ESRB ratings like suggested, and I'm not putting a banner at all on the front. I want to show off the art as much as possible.

>> No.1052985

That actually looks pretty good. Credits and description probably come down to personal taste.

I like the idea of them myself, but due to the variety of colors in the artwork getting a color of text that shows up well may be near impossible. But hey the great thing about digital art you can do it both ways and just remove the text layer if it doesn't work out.

>> No.1053004

>>1052985
Yeah, after printing it I'm thinking that text may end up impossible to read. Adding a shadow seemed to help a lot, but it may not translate into print as well, and it's pretty difficult to read digitally anyway. I may end up going for a description instead, since they're usually short bullet points and probably won't be as much of a wall of text as the credits. I'm trying to keep it minimalistic, but it feels like it would be a little too empty with nothing on the back.

>> No.1054369

>>1054321
They're not, the Chrono Trigger one is a bit too long since it was harder to line up that edge since the background on the front is all white. The Super Metroid one is how big it's supposed to be.

As for spine art, I think it looks a lot more visually appealing than just a solid color with the logo. To me that looks too bland, and it's something I really like about box art from the PS2 era and up.
