What's your opinion on these guys?

>> No.1034937

I don't mind their distribution of smaller or new titles. As far as their actual old games go, I only go there to browse stuff that I can just get from abandonware sites for free.

Fair prices, no bullshit, mod compatible releases, no pricing by region, and they take the time to make games work on modern systems, only using DOSBOX as a last resort. And even then they make it into an EXE.

When they do price by region, they let you freely change your region, a feature they added with copious amounts of wink wink nudge nudge.

So yes, top-tier company

And I think they do a decent job with dosbox setups/making games work on modern systems. My inner autist would rather just have DOSBox installed once and actually know how to configure it. Sometimes I download a GoG distro just to see what their conf files look like and then run the game myself.

I've bought Jagged alliance deadly games and Crusader: no remorse and got a few free ones from them. Great company!

First time I was introduced to them I was actually kind of surprised this kind of thing existed.

For new games, do you guys use GoG or Steam? I prefer Steam for new titles and GoG for old games

>> No.1034964

if youre trying to pirate an old game, the gog version is always clean and ready to run

2 thumbs up

and its public domain so fuck your morality

Even though they joked about it, I honestly believe they're like monks in a dark age of gaming.

They're preserving the greater works of gaming's yesteryear to pass it on towards future generations.

#1 gaming service, I just wish they could get Star Wars games on it. I'll even settle for lucasarts games in general.

You keep using that word, it does not mean what you think it means.

I buy prefer GOG but I am not opposed to buying from Steam. I like drm free games but will buy games with drm.

I don't think so, Tim.

Love them, 182 games bought and counting. Bro-tier company, no drm and tons of extras. This is coming from someone who dislikes steam if that means anything.

fuck you too buddy

I prefer Steam for multiplayer games or games that will have many update.
For indie game or just games that will have next to no update GOG.

I like them and I've bought a lot of stuff from them.

But.

I won't whine that they don't make linux a first-class citizen, but I don't want to fire up vmware, run their .exe and shuffle folders around every time I try a new game. Just give me a zip already.

Worse than crack.
I love them.

>> No.1035413

I've pirated old fps games and they all seemed a bit wonky. Gog version is the only one available too, there used to be better versions out there.

>> No.1035432

I like them, but they could offer better versions of some of the games.

Often times games had redbook audio CD editions (such as Duke Nukem 3D and Tyrian 2000), but they're distributing the midi driven variant.

>> No.1035561

>>1035432
They could also configure CGA games so they aren't stuck in cyan and magenta hell.

Tyrian 2000 is free so I can't blame them for not offering a larger download.

>> No.1035576

GoG makes LAN Parties fucking heaven!

The only exception is with ArmA Gold since it requires that each player to have a seperate key for LAN.

In the household 'cold room' we have 8 P4EE PCs strictly for LAN and people always have a blast with the games we got so far from GoG.

>> No.1035585

They really are the best at what they do. Have nice prices for classic games and work their asses off getting it to work with a little effort on the buyer. Got a nice bunch of games when they were doing their summer sale and never regretted it for a second. Plus because it DRM free it's easier to mod and do whatever else I want to do with it.

>> No.1035615

they can go fuck themselves. I'll pirate the living shit out of old vidya and not give a fuck. since that is what they did anyway and so they just sell it.

I might buy NWN2 though but probably only Atari is getting money for it so I'm undecided. love the game. not retro but I'm glad somebody sells it as download now since steam took off their lists. besides I'm missing Mysteries of Westgate.

>> No.1035617

>>1034961
Steam and if DRM fucks us all in the ass by closing accounts. I'll just pirate steamversions of the games.
