Hey /vr/,

I've got a bit of a weird problem and was wondering if you fine gents could help me out a bit.

The problem is that I'm trying to set up my Sega Genesis but the video image is displaying black and white only.

I just got the Sega Genesis model 1, non-TMSS version, and I am trying to hook it up to a Sony Wega KV-32FV27. I am using the Sega composite cables and have also tried using the Sega RF cable on both Channel 3 and 4.

The odd thing is, I've hooked up the Genesis to my Vizio VA320M as a test and the video image displays normal colors on that TV.

Any ideas on how I can get the picture to properly display on the Sony Wega?

Thank you.

Sounds like you're hooking an NTSC console to a PAL only TV, Bro.

I'm pretty sure all my equipment is NTSC.

I've run both my NES and N64 off the Wega. And I've run several consoles off of the Vizio.

Update on the problem:

I've tested the Genesis on 2 other tvs and both of them display proper colors. Then I tried hooking up an old VCR, a Toshiba W-522, to the Sony Trinitron Wega and ran the Genesis through the VCR. With the VCR, the Trinitron shows normal colors also.

This leads me to believe the problem has something to do with how the Genesis and Trinitron directly interact, possibly something to do with NTSC/PAL as >>1034847 suggested.
On this message board I found via google, https://atariage.com/forums/topic/195494-genesis-problem-with-tv/
the Sega apparently outputs a non-standard NTSC signal, which the Trinitron may not like, but the other tvs and vcr will tolerate.

I was considering modding the console to output S-Video as it would produce a better picture and I keep seeing the black and white issue being brought up for mods with S-Video and 50hz/60hz switches. Does anyone have an idea if this might fix the NTSC signal, so I can use it directly with the Trinitron?
