Because back then, even if you were a shut-in nerd, you still had to go outside and socialize with other people if you wanted to get any kind of work done or play games with other people. They certainly used the internet but not as much as the nerds of today because it was very limited in what you could do back then. You still had to drive to the office and make yourself somewhat presentable and develop decent social skills.
Now though, with the advent of high-speed internet, your average shut-in nerd doesn't even have to see another face for literal months if they don't want to. This is obviously a detriment to your social skills and mental/physical health hence why modern nerds are some of the most bottom of the barrel, disgusting, fat degenerates you'll see. Social media also fuels narcissism, which is why these nerds over-inflate their self-importance despite their situation.

>btw sorry but those extra things you paid for during the kickstarter like custom faces, VIALS OF MY OWN BLOOD, books, handmade silver rings and others just cant be sent :( here is some useless in game cash shop money and a 3d model of the book we wont be sending you
>OK guys I've milked you the best I could time to bounce. GL with your half finished game!
>Starr long here I gotta bounce too I gotta appear in a commercial for a surfboard with a single wheel that you ride down the road like a doofus on. here is this no name faggot that will never complete the game!

Heaven is an early 80's office building with no exit. Tons of lounges, personalized cubicles, full vending machines, ethernet lying everywhere, everyone sleeps in the break room with the AC on full blast, gets up, works for 12 minutes, goes to lunch at the McDonalds on the first floor, then spends 17 hours playing Doom2 with the gods.

I have lived through a very specific time where all social agencies have failed me. It doesn't matter if I have to dance for the king, suck off the khan, or light a Rothschild's cigar, I would give anything to live in a world where I could afford the wonderful things this world produces. If Capitalism were so flawed, someone would have saved me from it already.

I really like looking at these pictures of very generic sararimen, and knowing that their job was crafting fantastical fun adventures with outlandish character designs, cute animal sidekicks, and passionate music, all from within these soulless corporate offices. It's exactly the sort of inexplicable dichotomy that Japan often manifests.
Team Silent (>>10342467) is a good example. They were supposedly a "loser" team, within a shitty company like Konami, and the guy who made the videos had to spend many nights living at the office so he could use the computers to render. I don't know how people can produce something so heartfelt and timeless as Silent Hill under such conditions. I would probably be a bitter, alienated prick drained of all enthusiasm within weeks.

I mean, if I had the skills and was in a team/working under a team who were all motivated to make a game that was "ours" I would try my hardest to want to get it out even if I was being punished by being put on that specific team. I'd want to try harder if my input was being asked for and put into the game as it'd start feeling like it was becoming something that needed me there and was *my* game to an extent.

I've always felt it really only comes down to how creative and passionate those devs really are. It might seem a bit silly to boil it down in such a simple and innocent manner, but playing the amount of mid-80s Famicom games I have has truly shown me the joyless husks of shit that kind of corporate environment can bring out of the average programmer who doesn't really give a flying fuck about the creative vision of a product. It has also made me way more appreciative of the few devs who not only make something, but something so thoughtful and inspiring.

These are good points. Team Silent were all on the same page creatively and definitely shared a vision and goal for their project, so it isn't really an emblematic example of the kind of stifling committee-based approach that some of these office layouts call to my mind. My bad.

Passion helps a lot. When you really care about something you're creating the exhaustion wears on you, but doesn't break you. I've made a few things in my life with bare minimum equipment, comforts, and it consumed tons of time, but kept going until it was done because I really liked what I was constructing. Now I have all the time in the world and much more comfortable circumstances to create yet I don't because I have no ideas or motivation. The few ideas I get aren't good enough to make me want to see it through.

Also, I think that particular team were trying to prove themselves so that would be another good motivator. Passion still helps a whole lot though.
