US made way more good games in /vr/ times than today. Classics like Pong, Prince of Persia, Karateka, Civilization, Dune 2, Warcraft etc. Now US just pumps a shitload of money into creatively bankrupt games.

Mario games are the chicken nuggy of gaming, pure manchild shit. Sonic was only good in the 90s and part of that was its visuals and music, both based on American styles. SF only has 2 good games out of like 200. Final Fantasy has zero good games. Pokemon has zero good games.

Those are all terrible, but European games are worse. Literally only the Japanese have figured out how to make a good game.

American games tend to focus more on story, feelings, and style.

Japan does those things to, but their ultimate goal is create a sense of wonder. These games tend to be deeper, and last longer. They however, tend to be full of tropes and often lackluster stories.


These are not bad, just different.

Japanese games feel leaner (other than JRPGs). As I've gotten older my patience for le cinematic experiences has all but evaporated, which has led to me playing more arcadey stuff which tends to be Japanese. Western PC games tend to mog Eastern PC games though.

They're obviously made by Americans who recognize that Japan is a superior country in literally every way. Better video games, less hours worked on average, lower suicide rate, lower immigration rate, lower cost of living, affordable housing, food that isn't poison and laws against putting poison in products meant for human consumption... Battletoads is god-tier. DKC is described as having co-operation, but none of it seems to be through real development. A lot of the comments that have been made by the developers make it seem like they were mostly free to do what they wanted (ditto for 2)
