Started a new Ys I & II run last night. One of my most- finished games ever but it's always comfy to go back. I play through at least one version of them once a year

I instinctively knew how to pronounce this.
Years before becoming aware of the video game, I read this word used as a placename in a book by the great Jack Vance (who drew the same mythological/folkloric source as the game designers. "Ys" comes from Bretagne folklore).
Face it, I am a patrician compared to you plebs who only think it's a word invented by a Japanese man for a video game, and resent its oddness to a person with a typical American education.

This game is jank through and through. I loved staring at the pictures of the SNES version in Nintendo Power, they tricked you into thinking it was going to be a grand adventure game, but it plays like something that should have been forgotten on 8-bit japanese computers.

The Eternal/Complete/Chronicles versions of 1&2 are the best because they're fast paced and the bump system Just Works with the analog control that lets you control the angle you come in bumping.
