in retrospect, there is nothing all that scary about this, but as a kid it fucking freaked me out, it just felt obscure and foreign to me, uncanny valley feeling

Does Lost World prove Genesis blast processing superiority over Nintendo once and for all?

That's a kino cover, pleb.

One thing I always wondered about, the Sega JPs got the yellow logo variant while Nintendo got red.

I was very young when I played this maybe 4 or 5. Anyway, by this point I had played plenty of video games and was used to the idea stomping Goombas or using a sword that shoots laser beams.
But this was the first game I ever remember where I had to use "real" violence i.e. punching and kicking against "real" people. It freaked me out and filled me with an incredible amount of anxiety at first. I quickly got over this and it became one of my favorite games.

The third level kind of terrified me as well with it's eerie purple skies and creepy music.

Do jump scares count? Those enemies in Diablo 1 that can charge at you super fast from off screen still get me from time to time.

When it comes to Genesis games, they did a fantastic job of making them dark and frightening as hell. Pic related.

Jurassic Park Rampage had scarier dinos I recall.
I remember the swastika room in Doom 1. Scared the shit out of me and my dad playing was "Are you scared? It's a game don't worry".
Silent Hill, I used to watch my uncle play it until my parents got me a PS1 and I played it with very low volume or mute because it stressed me a lot.

I remember it being pretty random back in the day. All the Jurassic Park merchandise seemed to pick whichever version looked better in the composition. I'm not even sure if one is more official than the other. The VHS uses red but I think I've seen yellow on movie posters.

The first encounter in RE was kind of... cool I guess at the first time. You just knew what's gonna happen when a pale figure is hunching over a corpse.

The first zombie in AITD was especially scary because you just didn't expect it. And you felt more pressed because of the shitty controls.
