Do they play fine with the standard controller or would it be wise to invest in a stick? Also DC shmup general.

>> No.10295371

Nothing on the Dreamcast plays fine with the standard controller.

I've got both, and they're both fine for shmups. Pic-related is a good DC shmup.

If you do get the Agetec stick, don't ruin it by swapping out the sticks and buttons (requiring a dremel/grinding). The stock stick/buttons are great. I've also got the VSHG with real Sanwa parts, and it's about the same.

Best way to play Dreamcast shooters is to get the Total Control 3 adapter that lets you use Saturn controllers on your Dreamcast.

Giga Wing rocks. That soundtrack gets me pumped. Shame that it doesn't output 240p like the arcade original. 480i looks flickery, and 480p through VGA looks blocky.

Wrong, retard.

Mars Matrix is my favorite followed by the first Giga Wing and Zero Gunner 2.

Border Down is good, with a very nice presentation, but it didin't click with me.

There are a few revisions to the stock DC controller. The original ones had very little support for the pivot point on the triggers when they reduced the plastic thickness from the Saturn pad to lower costs, but that caused a lot of them to break. They had a D-pad which conformed more to the curvature of the whole controller at first. Later editions, starting around the Millennium 2000 line of transparent controllers, the D-pad became raised significantly, using more plastic for its taller profile. While standard Dreamcast controllers function, >>10295371 is correct since they are only for smaller than average sized hands to even "use" so I recommend the Ascii Pad FT, custom arcade sticks, or adapters such as >>10295583 suggested to get better controllers connected.

I always liked Border Down but I've been an absolute shitter at it since it released. I also made someone very butthurt over beating him to the punch on buying a Border Down mouse pad from someone. I wonder if that stuff has appreciated enough to warrant selling it now.

Marble countertop anon, what the actual fuck is your story? I've liquidated my collection numerous times at conventions and people went wide-eyed at my selection every time. But you, you outdo every collection of genres or series I've ever touched every single time.

I miss Xoxak's uploads. It was a better time.

It adapts to the (optional) widescreen mode by making it more difficult. It also has a new chopper to use which is pretty cool.

I enjoy the odd, less popular games it seems. Kept most of the games I had instead of liquidating because it was evident even back then when no one wanted the system and would rather wait out for the PS2, it was just more prudent to keep these games that I enjoyed that no one else would appreciate.
