>HARD LEVEL CAR... EDITION

What arcade racers have you been playing recently? I've been gitting gud and Daytona 2 and Scud Race and have to say that the mechanics are much more rewarding and fun to master than Daytona USA. But even if the mechanics are more satisfying, USA has a certain kind of magic that will never be topped in an arcade racer.

2 generally gives me the impression that they cut corners on textures and trackside visuals due to hardware limitations and lack of resources. And while a sim should be focusing on the driving experience over track visuals, it's also hard to remember most of the GT2 tracks. It never plays fine even if you force yourself to complete it. The game stays laggy and barely playable shit in its entirety. You just memed yourself into thinking that it's good because nobody else wants to waste their time on the game and it kinda makes you feel special in a big-fish-little-pond way and your "post times" spamming only confirms this. You don't post your Sega Rally times, you don't post your Gran Prix 4 times and you don't post your Gran Turismo times because people here play these games and you are just not as good at these games as others. Now git gut at good games or btfo.

>NFSIII sim mode on PS1
Based. It has much less car settings than Gran Turismo 1-2 but the handling is more interesting imo. I don't drive a sports car irl and can't say which one is more realistic but I play a fair bit of PC2 and AC and NFSIII car handling in sim mode feels very similar to those. In GT1-2 the cars oversteer and lose grip easily at the slightest turn but the slides are easy to control and correct. In NFSIII the cars are more understeering and grippy by default but if you lose grip then you're screwed so you have to be careful and easier on the brakes and learn to deal with unwanted sliding correctly. The drifts are possbile but require specific settings and are very hard to pull off.
I hate how none of this is present in the PC version though. It's too arcadey instead.

I used chase cam all the time. I like to look at the car I'm driving and how stylish it looks. Hood cam is also great if you can actually see the car's hood on the bottom. Cockpit cam is fine but it severely limits you field of view which does not provide all the information you'd really have.
Fuck bumper cam. I'm not playing as a flying camera.

When GT1 launched it was the most sim-oriented driving game on consoles. GT2 was even better. The only things comparable were Dreamcast games like LM24 and F355 Challenge.
They're still far closer to sim than they are to Mario Kart, though the title of 'most accurate sim on consoles' has kinda slipped away from them because genuine hardcore dedicated sims like Assetto Corsa are also on console now.
