Last time I made a battlestations thread here, you people bullied me for having my tube and consoles on the floor. So I finally decided to spruce it up, and make it a little less poverty-esque. What do you bros think?

Nice minimalist setup, but My one concern would be that the original Xbox has no room vent. You've blocked the side vents from expelling hot air. If you want electronics to last a long time then you must never let them get hot or block their vents.

what does everyone use to connect multiple consoles? /g/ was useless for this question so i figure here makes way more sense
i have 3 Component, 4 RGB Scart, 1 VGA, 1 SVideo/HDMI consoles, the VGA is just a dreamcast so its fine, but i have no clue what to connect component/svideo capable RGB consoles to. Some redditors say just get a/v receivers, some people use pelicans and GE/phillips brand switchers, ironically all seem to be within neighboring price brackets. I want to understand what the best way to set all this shit up to as few devices as needed is. I have an OSSC and Retrotink 2X multiformat i want these connected to. most of the RGB consoles are capable of s-video and i want to try that.

IMO at that point you're better off just getting some extension cables to make hookups easier and just hooking things up when you're playing them and putting them away when you're not.

Unless you have a really good plan it's a real pain in the ass doing a multi-AV setup with like 10 consoles ready to go at once.

Every console seen has a wireless controller or modern wireless equivalent for player one. IE: The Xbox uses the 20th anniversary edition controller (black/white just become the bumper buttons) and the PSX/PS2 just use the 20th anniversary PS4 and a black controller respectively.

Every console supports RGB/component video out, whether through hardmods and/or retrovision cables.

Every console is either softmodded or flashcarted to support instant access to every title, beta, noteworthy romhack, mod, etc ever released regardless of region.

The Xbox is "Live" via Insignia for online play as well as through XBMC can stream any content I'd like from a Jellyfin server in my office, and the PS2 network adapter has the SATA mod to support a 16TB HDD while preserving it's network functionality for Resident Evil Outbreak among other games with dedicated fanbases/servers running.

Every TV is connected via a 5.1 soundbar with dedicated rear speakers and a sub, turns out a lot of older consoles made plenty use of quadrophonic "surround" in neat ways, and optical out via the PS2 sounds great for DVD playback or games that took advantage of it.

Not seen: Behind the 32" is a jailbroken PS4 I've put Fedora on to run the only "emulation" in the room for all my friends who grew up with PC games via this resource - https://www.retro-exo.com/exodos_M.html - Which uses the Logitech kbm seen (with a Mario Paint mousepad for lulz).

The color of the room is the following and despite the shit lighting in this picture is very close to the GameCube purple - https://www.behr.com/consumer/ColorDetailView/HDC-MD-25

I'm aware the space and collection of random things is a bit kitschy, but it's all things that either brought me joy as a kid or things my wife or friends have gifted me over the years who's enjoyment of this space is my primary source of purpose for building this space. Any additional technical feedback /vr/ can offer to improve?

You obviously know what you are doing from an electronics and console standpoint so I won't make any comments. Kudos to doing all Those mods.

Your room isn't messy, but from a strangers POV....it feels cramped. I feel like there's no space in your room.

Your wall mounted TV is also being partially blocked by the Sony TV on the ground. You need to raise the wall mounted TV higher. Is the 2nd Sony TV absolutely necessary? Is there a way to consolidate all of it to just 1 TV? Is there a hub you can connect all your consoles to? Maybe move the smaller Sony TV to a different room and open up the space a bit more.

I appreciate sentimentality of displaying items, but I recommend getting a tall glass case to hold all your items.

It may help if you paint this room in a brighter color like white to make it feel more "open" . Such as white or a similar color.

Again, these are just my opinions. Feel free to disregard as you see fit. I'm just a stranger on the internet.

>> No.10276057

I really like the minimalist simplicity here. Nice wooden stand that matches the room. Everything is spaced out and well balanced. The TV is just the right size and doesn't dominate the room.

Although that naked Neo Geo MVS board with exposed circuits bothers me a small bit. Have you thought about putting it in a case? They sell them online.

If you got rid of one of the TVs, then you would have room to properly display your items in a glass case for everyone to see. Maybe move the middle TV to another room. BTW that's a huge ass CRT TV anon. I have seen one like it in decades. Not since 1999 ish. Very nostalgic

The atgames one is pretty good, has way more tables, larger screen at higher res, glass top, and can add arcade roms for free to use joystick/trackball. Arcade1up is alot more dinky but was almost half price of atgames.

I've looked into AVRs as well, in fact the Denon AVR I have now might be a partial solution, I need to look into it. There are two issues about them I've read about, one being they can introduce lag. The other being even some AVRs with analog video inputs don't necessarily output to HDMI. They may only output to an analog monitor out port.

I meant to add it seems the AVRs that do convert analog to digital tend to be the older ones, ca. 2012 rather than the latest, greatest models.
Also of note is pic related, which in theory is exactly what I'm looking for, but apparently it's a piece of shit.

Thanks for all the feedback. Agreed, that angle isn't flattering from a space perspective but hopefully this demonstrates that it's plenty-comfy for three people. Four if they don't mind a beanbag.

As for the second CRT when I found the set + stand for a reasonable price (and with excellent geometry) I couldn't pass it up. When the 720p plasma was mounted there was previously a smaller set underneath and I haven't thought of whether I want to remount the plasma a bit higher or just get a different mounting bracket that will let me bring it up and out when in use.

Having two TV's means people can play different things at the same time + some consoles look better on the 32" with a grill vs the 40" who's grill/scanlines are a bit different. I'll be swapping the dreamcast and N64 shortly for that reason.

Shout out for the recommendation though on the glass shelf. In the works but haven't found something my wife or I likes that we're happy with.

Thanks

Solid feedback, not sure how to explain it but we want things organically displayed and meant to be played with or interacted with vs pristine museum display. A glass shelf would be nice in helping manage dust however. The bigger one is a 40" and happened to be being sold by a neighbor and I couldn't help myself. Previously had two 32" side by side.

Good eye, was a gift from a friend. They also gave me a super old Eva scroll but am not sure what I want to swap out to put it up.

Best in thread. As impressive as the sprawling retro-youtuber hoarding setups with accessory displays and vidya posters are, this is what captures the spirit of retro for me. A handful of meaningful memories in a modest entertainment center.
