Are you fucking retarded?
The NEC PCs had tons of office software. Infact until the mid 90s all of japan basically used NEC or sharp PC systems with the proper software too from accounting to CAD, it's just that what's most documented in the West is videogames, because almost nobody here is that much into mid 80s japanese word processors.
The kind of weird low IQ recess tales that get spun over such a easily researchable topic are baffling.

>>10261868

it completely bombed in the US. NEC blew money on manufacturing over marketing, and they burned bridges with devs over royalities. this meant NEC ended up self-publishing every single turbografx game

NEC made several personal computers, the range included "PC". PC-8800, PC98, PC98-NX, etc.
So the term "PC" had brand recognition for them in Japan. This was back in the days before the west had decided that "PC" would only apply to IBM PCs.

So when they made a new console, they stuck to their branding, PC. Why "Engine"? No idea, maybe because it was the "engine" pulling along the games.

Obviously in the west PC had started to become clearly linked to IBM compatibles, so they changed the name for the western market and stuck 16 on the end because of the bit wars.

Family Computer Network System existed. With dial up early internet to live stock trades, horse race bets, weather forecasts, banking programs etc.

Family BASIC existed, with a keyboard, allowing BASIC programming

It's a games-oriented computer.
