Why couldn't they top it? Why did they peak with the first entry? Everything they did in successive games served only to make the games feel less concise and smooth than the original

>> No.10253330

Mega Man X is the peak of videogames in general so it's no surprise that CAPCOM would get diminishing returns immediately after.

>> No.10253483

I always like the x games better that the normal mega man games. they were to hard for me and I didn't get the concepts that were in it. x was better over all and it told me how to play the game in game without needing a manual. plus zero was overall a better character that mega man, and nothing can top the x games. they are the only ones I can beat to this day because the other games are to hard

Capcom is good at making a great success and letting their fire for it die almost instantly because they don't want it to define them. Look at how much better Street Fighter 2 is compared to that abomination Street Fighter 3.

I like X2 about as much but yeah X1 is close to being a perfect video game.

Play Maverick Hunter X on PSP OP. You might enjoy it.

Most people also really enjoy X4 and I personally have a soft spot for X5 (its soundtrack is the only one that rivals the first game imo). Aside from that, I guess there's Mega Man 7? Not quite the same but it's still a pretty good game. I think it has higher production values/possibly a bigger budget than X2 and X3 as well, especially the latter which was partially outsourced to Minakuchi Engineering

>> No.10253556

Only the first game the levels influence others
X6 tried the same but it's not permanent changes

X3 has that as well, brought back after X2 removed it for some retarded reason.

>> No.10253565

>>10253563
They probably did that so it wouldn't interfere with the X Hunter thing which already adds mid-bosses the levels depending on where they land

Mega Man X, X2, and X3 are the only good mega man games. The rest are trash.

I don't think they did. X1 is incredibly polished and a great game overall, but it doesn't have as much depth as some of it's sequels Some later games were less polished and sometimes far worse in quality (X7), but I think most of them attempted to expand in ways that X1 did not, like making the armor more useful, X2 having a more varied weapon set where every weapon has it's own use and none of them are the obvious best choice for every situation, and allowing for more different ways to replay the game, such as a less rigid stage order or X3's Nightmare Police fights impacting the fortress stages and their bosses depending on whether you use their weakness or not.
I think X6 is the best X game but it throws out a lot of the things that the previous games did, so I wouldn't say it's an improvement even if I think it's a better game

Sequels were given too much freedom for the story, too many anime subplots, too many ugly characters.

I think it's rather simple, really. MMX series didn't quite reach that much popularity in Japan, and it wasn't some crazy success in US either. same fate happened to Castlevania, Contra, the list goes on. when PSX came, they gave MMX to their B teams. they did what they could—fine games made on budget, while top staff went to work on RE, Onimusha, DMC, SF, MVC, etc.
fun fact: IIRC, MMBN series on GBA alone sold as much in Japan as the rest of MM games combined, leaving MMZ series far behind. now you know why they made a million of those games.

You should be able to beat 2 just by using Metal Blade all day, switching only when necessary. The enemies drop a ton of ammo too.

>>10253563
X1 handles it well but X3 feels more arbitrary. In practice it ends up just making routing more annoying. You either play the stages in the "right" order or you have to revisit a bunch of them, which is already a pain in the ass in X3. X2 is the only one that requires zero revisits with a lot of different order options. I really love how there's more than one way to get a bunch of upgrades in X2.

This would have been way better if it had more variety. There should be a scenario where you fight Bit or Byte alone in the Doppler stage if you happened to only kill the one, giving four variants rather than only two.

>> No.10256015

>>10255956
True, it would have been better that way. Maybe Bit's Doppler stage fight could have had him use his shield that otherwise only appears in artwork.

I tried but I literally can't beat any of the main series games. x games were easier by far.

I don't even like Mega Man games, but Mega Man X is easily one of the best video games I've played and beat. Hard to top. It would probably be in my top three of all time if I didn't hate jump and shoot gameplay.

Bad game design

>> No.10257220

>>10257102
Not really. In fact the loose template set by Mega Man, is kind of bad game design. It'd be more solid gameplay if it was linear, but then it wouldn't be Mega Man.

>> No.10257237

>>10257064
maybe try 5 or 6, the charge shot is busted in those ones. most people say 5 is easier but i'd say 6 is, however you do get a lot of lives as drops in 5 so there's that.

>> No.10257862

>>10257220
Non-linearity is the point of Mega Man, it's really retarded to call it bad game design. It's like saying Steet Fighter 2 is badly designed because there are no mooks to beat up on the streer before fighting the boss.

>> No.10257890

X1 wasn't designed with the dash in mind (not even levels where you're guaranteed to have it). That's why it feels different from the later games.
