1023678 No.1023678 [Reply] [Original]

I recently patched the cracks in my SNES and gave it a paint job. Couldn't show it til now because lolbanned. I think it looks nice anyway.

Custom retro thread? Anyone else do anything similar?

I used greenstuff I got at a hobby shop to patch the cracked corners, and sanded it down to match after it dried (24 hours). Worked pretty great, but it's a hard thing to work with. Sticks to your hands.

I am interested in the crack that was fixed and how the repair job looks, but that paint job looks like you just used some nail polish or took a sharpie to one piece of plastic... If you're going to paint it, go all-out and complete the whole console. Or at the very least, add some decorations to it to justify the paint job.

Maybe not the right term for mine, but I'd to see other paint jobs.

>>1023687
The whole thing is painted, white and black. I'm thinking of stenciling something on it as well, but I haven't come up with an image I'd want on it permanently.

should have gone all black. imo that is.
Heck, maybe even gold?

The only problem about using greenstuff to fix the cracks is getting the texture right. Since I just sanded mine down some parts look too smooth. You can see it behind the cartridge slot in the first pic.

>>1023697
Did a bunch of mockups in photoshop first and liked this best. To each their own.

>> No.1023713

It doesn't look half bad. Most console paint jobs I have seen are glossy as hell because they use car tools and shit. Not that those ones don't look good, but I think people are just use to see it professionally done.

I could've gone with flat black/white, but wanted it glossy. For a second I considered using chalkboard spray, so I could draw on it, but that seemed a bit childish.

Half glossy anyway... It's not as shiny as others I've seen.

Maybe a gold triforce near the back of the console would work well with the black.

I've seen it done too many times. Also sticking with the white and black. Maybe a wireframe of an arwing...

Yeah. That seemed to help. first corner was a pain in the ass though, trying without water. all 4 were cracked because my mom had the SNES sitting in a bag full of VHS tapes for 10 years.

Planning on painting an old Gamecube and N64 in the near future. On a related note, I thought it was considered taboo to custom paint retro consoles. Last time I saw a thread on this, some people nearly had a heart attack from just thinking about it.

If it were in pristine condition I'd agree, but mine was severely yellowed and cracked. It's a shame, but these consoles aren't going to last forever. I don't see anything wrong with making them look as nice as possible.

>>1025630
My original plan was to make it completely smooth/glossy, but decided I didn't like the idea after a bit. That's the only place you can notice the odd smoothness, and I'll most likely be stenciling over it at some point.

That would look decent with a fade. Also even better with dark purple fade instead of white.

But at least that thing as the winged spoiler instead of the rimmed spoiler. Not a fan of the asymetric hood bump though.

I miss driving those things, they were amazing to drive compared to nearly everything else you'd find on the street.
