If you play Yellow, do you get the same dialogue/quotes as Red and Blue?

>> No.10239854

>>10239850
It's 99% the same. Yellow adds a few new NPC's.

>> No.10239873

A few scripted sequences are a bit different (most notably getting your first pokemon) and like 4 nameless rocket trainers get swapped for Jessie/James. Otherwise I think all dialog is intact.

A few trainers' dialogue and teams were changed to reference the anime. For example, there's a trainer referencing AJ on the way to Rock Tunnel that mentions his winning streak and has a Sandshrew that knows Fissure.

Technically yes, but they look just like the rest of the games but with fewer colors.
Gen 1's jank makes it a unique experience, so I'd rather play with the RB sprites instead of Yellow's.

The old man in Viridian is different in Yellow. In Red/Blue after delivering Oak's Parcel you can pass him, but have to talk to him for the catching tutorial. In Yellow the tutorial is mandatory.

>> No.10241530

The old man also leaves after the tutorial so that you can't trigger Missingno glitches.

>Gen 1's jank makes it a unique experience
The English release of red/blue is basically v2 after the japanese green/red while yellow was v3. Why is the level of jank they fixed in the second release okay but the level of jank in the third bad.

>> No.10241619

>>10241530
You wouldn't be able to trigger the glitch if he stayed. They fixed the bug that actually caused the glitch (basically, right facing shore/water tiles weren't properly coded to check if the local encounters had changed since the last encounter, which is why you could also use the glitch to catch Safari Zone pokemon in normal combat).

>> No.10241626

Because Yellow came out after the pokemon designs became standardized and look just like they do in the following games.
I thought that was clear in my first post.

Because RB is not based on the trashime which basically fucked over the whole game series and made it more and more sterile and soulless as time went on.

Sure, but in the same vein maybe you cluelessly just caught 5 of some random pokemon along the way and accidentally realised that at least one of them was better than Pikachu against Brock. Mankey is a bit useless in RB too because it only learns normal types moves at that point and Brock doesn't use any rock type moves either.
I admit I just used Butterfree because other kids told me it was the best, though. And it was some good advice because it's useful for a great length after the first gym too.

The big thing is that Pokemon Yellow is MUCH harder than Pokemon Red + Blue.
If you follow the pokemon progression like Ash does in the show it's crazy hard (and really fun).
I just realized making a full JRPG that's a point for point copy of the anime, where Ash walks around with Misty and Brock would be REALLY popular.

>> No.10249665

I bet a lot of kids did, assuming it's possible to follow his progression. Probably quite a few got into the game because of the show, Yellow is obviously structured around elements of the show, and Gen 1 was known for being relatively immersive for kids at the right age. It's common for people to create characters in games that are inspired by characters (see how many elf archers named "Legolas" there were), and a Pokemon trainer named Ash would be an obvious choice.

>> No.10249794

Yellow came out at an awkward time with the anime. When they would have been making it, the Porygon incident had occurred and the last badge Ash had gotten was Koga, so there was no anime inspired version of taking down Giovanni or expansion to Cinnabar island to make Blaine's gym in a volcano.

The Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee remakes at least gave Jesse and James a proper sendoff and teased Archer.
